: Lift, wheels, and tires for 06 X??
Supermanx06 02-18-2007, 09:52 AM I'm looking to put either 18" or 20" wheels on my 06. Apparently the 06 has a very unique bolt pattern, so finding 18's in black is next to impossible. But if I could find them, with a three inch lift what is the biggest tire I could fit w/out rubbing. I'm looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler and I'd like to fit at least a 33 on it. Please help...
Kona Hawaii 02-18-2007, 01:38 PM Hello, You say the 06 has a unique pattern? I wonder why. ...Aloha
Anthony 02-18-2007, 02:01 PM If I remember correctly the bolt pattern on the 05-07's is 6x5.5 with 5.5" backspace.
If you're planning to go offroad, you really don't want 18" (or larger) rims. As a matter of fact the smaller the rim the better, as then more of the diameter will be tire sidewall which will allow the tires to conform better to terrain and give you better traction and a better ride off road.
On your truck you can fit 33" tires with the truck completely stock.
My strong recommendation is to keep your stock wheels and get some 33's mounted on them.
The other issue with going to larger wheels is that the the tire prices are tremendously higher, and there is less of a selection of tires.
Supermanx06 02-18-2007, 04:04 PM The 06 is 6x4.5. The only other rig out there with this bolt pattern is the RT version of the Dodge Dakota. I'm not sure why its different, but it makes it hard to find wheels. Thanks for the advice on keeping the stock rims, I didn't realize that(this is my first offroad vehicle). I actually like the factory wheels, but I'm trying to find someone who can Teflon coat them. I've had my heart set on black wheels every since I decided on getting the X. She's an eyecatcher now, I can't wait to start the mods.
Anthony 02-18-2007, 06:10 PM Oops 6x4.5 I did know that, but I mistyped it.
the first gen trucks are 6x5.5 however ;)
I also wanted black finish rims, so I painted the stock ones. I'm happy with the way they turned out.
json3904 02-18-2007, 06:46 PM you can get the rockcrawler rims that ricer got, i think they come in the 6x4.5 but i might be wrong
Supermanx06 02-23-2007, 03:02 PM Thanks. Now for another question. Does anyone know where I can get my stock rims Teflon coated??
WoodyTX 02-23-2007, 04:16 PM Check the yellow pages for powdercoating places.
Anthony's right - if you're going off-road, you do not want large rims. Stock is best, because they're easiest to replace when (not if) you ding them. Many off-roaders prefer steel wheels - in a pinch, they can be banged back into shape while on the trail.

json3904 02-23-2007, 09:35 PM righ tthats why i mentioned the rockcrawler rims........
Muzikman 02-26-2007, 09:21 AM It's not the bolt pattern or the backspacing that makes the wheels hard to find. It's the hub mount pad. Most aftermarket wheels for the 05+ require spacers for the calipers not to hit. There do seem to be a growing number of wheels that fit.
BTW, on stock wheels you can fit 285/75R16 tires without any lift (with minor plastic remolding).
ramxterra 03-06-2007, 10:06 AM this is also the setup that i want some nice 18" wheels with nitto Terra Grapplers on them. i don't offroad much so that is not an issue, but if you do off road then i hear stock is the best from the other forum thenewx.org they talk about putting 255/85/16 and they look good, i can't find the pic put it looks good
json3904 03-12-2007, 10:19 PM yes the smaller the rim the better...... 15" is the best from what i have heard, i have the factory 16's but i will get 15" rockcrawler rims as soon as i convince the wife!!!!
Muzikman 03-13-2007, 01:43 PM You can only fir 16"+ wheels on the 05+ X's.
json3904 03-13-2007, 04:24 PM i didnt know that thanks! i thought you could go with 15's sorry about the bad info!!!!!
Anthony 03-13-2007, 05:45 PM Ya, they won't fit over the brake calipers.
json3904 03-14-2007, 12:11 AM thats what i figured
