What do you guys think about installing a spotlight or fog lights on X without any drilling, like magnetic base? Are they any good? Will they stay in their places if branch of a tree hits them while I'm driving thorugh brush?

you're definitely going to get better lighting with a spot light than fog lights. i put the stock fog lights into my 05 x, but upgraded the bulbs to much higher output. i get great lighting out of it, but that's only on the road. on the trail you'd want something mounted higher up for better visibility. my experience with aftermarket fog lights that aren't mounted in the factory locations is that they vibrate like crazy, which can be real annoying to look at. also, be careful if you're going to use some kind of magnetic mount- it will destroy the paint on the vehicle where it's mounted. i think your best bet is to get some kind of light bar, i know that json3904 has a pretty nice set up that he built himself, looks like a light bar on a wrangler. or, if you have an aftermarket bumper like one from shrock, you can easily mount lights on that and they shouldn't vibrate at all.

so when i place order with shrock, do i tell them specidifally i'd like a bumper with holes predrilled? or do i drill them myself? i heard if u put lights on the front, they might get beat up by tree branches pointing to diferrent directions. or is this not an issue with shrock?

i don't have a shrock bumper on my x, i still have a stock bumper. i'm sure some of the guys who have the shrock bumpers will speak up soon. seems to me that it would have to be a billion to one, golden bb shot to get a tree branch to knock out a foglight on the bumper. plus, if you mount auxilary lights on top of the bumper, the branches are going to hit the bumper before they hit the lights.

Shrock bumper comes with holes for 2 lights. I've never seen bumper mounted lights get whacked by branches but anything is possible.

I have, however, seen plenty of roof mounted lights getting whacked by trees.

Hello, You will need to know what you will be using the lights for?

FOG lights: need to be near the lower part of the vehicle because you want the lights to hit the road just under the fog. (yellow works better than white in a thick fog).

Spot lights: just shines a spot (flood lights a wide area,) Best places to mount them? Depends

Some people like them the roof,(high is good) except without shields the hoods lights up too. ON the bumber area, front? ...like you headlights are...is the most practical because in front,no reflections from the glares on the hood.

If buying additional lights...do your homework...you will want a dependable ones, the ones that will give you for the most lights (for the dollars you will spend). Know your laws? some states the additional lights have to be cover at all times on the highways.

Also may need an addition battery, relays, higher output alternator....mounting switches inside for the best use.

Spot or fog? Here SPOT! ......Aloha

PS: ON the other side of the Island (Big Island of Hawaii), HILO side rains about 50-70 percent of the time. Lots of Fog in the middle parts. We install clear FOG lamps. (I wanted clear). We live on the KONA side where there is more sun shine and less FOGS, and driving at nights clears work great.
