Hello everyone,
I have recently purchased a 2005 Xterra with 21,000 miles on it as my winter vehicle. It replaces my '86 Ford Bronco which was becoming a serious money pit, and got no better than 9 miles per gallon.
The last Nissan I owned, or more precisely Datsun, I bought brand new in 1976, it was a 280Z. In the first 10 years of ownership I put gas, oil, and one set of plugs into it. I enjoyed the heck out of that car. A very reliable and fun vehicle.
My "new for me" Nissan allows my 2000 BMW M5 summer car to stay in the garage where it belongs. That is one of the most miserable cars to drive in the snow that was ever created.
I am very much looking forward to reading posts here so that I can begin my modifications to personalise the car to my tastes. My first addition was to purchase a Garmin 1490T GPS unit. I was able to get the Bluetooth working on that with no problem, so hands free calling is already addressed. I need to find out if the Nissan GPS housing will allow for the slightly longer dimensions of the 1490. It is probably about .5"-.6" longer than the Nuvi 7500 series that Nissan offers.
I've had the Xterra now for a few weeks and am continuing to like it more and more. The day after I took posession of it we were hit with a 20 inch snow storm. It's performance on that storms snow and the next days icy roads was nothing short of exceptional. The cars performance during the next mornings rush hour drive with the black ice was most impressive indeed. Fresh snow is no big deal, but the ice, that is where you separate the can does from the can't does, and the Xterra is a real can doer.
Ok, now I'm going to get into the forum and do a little reading.
Best Regards,
Peter
