I have a 2001 SE and I woulld like to get bigger tires, but I do not know what size tires will fit. I was thinking of trying 275/70R16, if they will fit my original rims. Since I need new tires, why not go a bit larger? Any suggestions gladly welcomed.
Thanks,
Jim:aufkopfhauen-big:

I needed to purchase new tires, quickly, and I tried using the search feature, to no avail, not finding a solid answer to my needs. So in desperate need, I asked for help in finding the size needed. You've been very helpful indeed. :usuck:

Calm down dude, you have to realize that we have this question asked probably 5x a day. Some of the people get tired of answering it. So just bare with us...

I just bought BFGoodrich A/T KOs for my '00 Xterra. They are size 30/950/15 and in my opinion they are awesome. But I have 15in wheels and it looks like you have 16s.

If you want my advice, try using the fit guide on TireRack or a similar site. They will tell you exactly what will fit your stock wheels. Alternatively, head down to your local tire shop. The guys at both places I went to were willing to show me all kinds of things that would fit.

Good luck, and honestly do try to use the search. When people tell you to, they aren't being smart asses, I promise.

And now I'm done:talk2much:

Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have.

Im seeing more more people on here getting rude with new people..... This seems to have started a month ago and now every one is being jerks...
Come on guys its a freaking message board.. If no one asked these questions.. this board would be really small.. I have posted this before about the search on here...its just not very good at all... and as far as these tire questions...think about this Not every one has stock rims... so be nice...I love this board and hate to think we might be turning newer people off due to all the rudeness

LOL yup, I feel your pain. I have the same opinion on the search button! unless you have 8 hours, and two pots of coffee, finding what you are looking for is frustrating.
I am also going to buy new tires. I never actually asked the question, but have been watching other ppl's post (like yours). basically getting a straight answer won't happen. there are always the "if you have...", "if you do this..." "I have this...", "I have that". No one X is the same.

Sorry can’t help, I am in the same boat as you. Let me know what find out

I am in the same boat as you only not in such a rush.

This is what im talking about... But you newer people need to think about this...Rim size, do you have a lift, are you planning a lift, What are my plans? From what little I know 2000- 2001 ran 15" stock rims.. I know that is what my 2001 has on it.

If your planning on offroading you might want to lift the X so you could run a taller tire.. I've read on here that you can go up to a 32 before you run in to rubbing issues. Im not the last word on this just from some things I have seen posted.
Spacing would be the next issue.. and this one gets me..if your running a wider tire your rim spacing will become a issue

If your looking for a street tire... Do you deal with snow...rain..???

A few thoughts with dave

its a shame no one ever tries browsing the section that holds the info they are lookin for, the tire size threads are so numerous, i refuse to believe anyone browsing(not using the search feature, browsing) wont find the answer

otherwise, whats the point of having the forum divided into sections according to topic

and as to peeps being rude to noobs, ive noticed too, and ive also seen noobs get attitude when its suggested that they havent tried looking

BFG TA ko, 275/70/16 (11"wide x 31.2" tall) or 265/75/16 (10.5" wide x 31.7" tall) Will fit a stock x just fine and are the biggest you can go without a body lift or major trimming on a 1st gen xterra.

If you had a dictionary in front of you, and you wanted to know the meaning of the word naive, would you look in the N section?

You have an Xterra encyclopedia right here, and you refuse to look it up.

Nobody is being pissy here, simply giving suggestions as how to find it. Ignorance is not an excuse.

To the OP: Here are of 330 topics on tires. You will find the answer within 5 minutes of searching which is less time than you spent between responses.

Thanks for the imput guys. Let me try this again. I have a 2001 SE, factory stock with 16" rims, 5-speed stick, yellow. With the tires I am looking for, I intend street use only, live on the boarder of NYC and New Jersey, so some snow but not a great deal. I would like to get a size or 2 taller AT tire. I have tried searching the TireRack site to no avail. I even called them, but the gentleman on the phone advised me his computer only offered the OE tire size for my year xterra. Any helpful suggestions gladly welcomed. Thank you for listening to my meltdown . . . sorry if I overreacted.

If I search tire sizes it brings up alot of topics.... But it searches EVER post so one would have to get into ALOT of threads till you found the right one.... Me I like searching because it has brought me to threads I might not normally look at. It really took me a couple days to get the lay out of this board.. And two... maybe some of these people dont work on cars and trucks for a living... Its sorta scary if you want to get in to the Mods and dont have many skills needed or back ground...... So what do you do ask questions

265/75 16 on stock rims for a 1st gen. is the max you can go with no trimming, or lift required.

Thanks alot, but, excuse my continued questioning, will these sizes fit my year X, 2001, or newer years, such as the one in the photo in your post?

johngraves2

Yes, first generation xterras are year 2000-2004.

Some call the years 2002-2004 generation 1.5 cause of the hood redesign.

2005-2010 are second generation.

As for tires the BF Goodrich that people keep talking about are good, but if you wotn see much off road use I would look at the goodyear silent armor or the yokohama A/ts. Search over on tirerack.com for thires that are this size. they have reviews and rankings best place to do reseach.

265/75 16 is about 31.7 inches tall for those of you asking about 15 inch rims, get something that has that same diameter and you will be good.

If you want anything bigger you need to have a body lift.

What do you mean?

rim size?

Tire size calculator:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

You can figure anything out with that.

You are given the answer right here:

275/70/16 (11"wide x 31.2" tall) or 265/75/16 (10.5" wide x 31.7" tall) Will fit a stock x just fine and are the biggest you can go without a body lift or major trimming on a 1st gen xterra.

Armed with these pieces of information you can go back and forth to any rim size, tire with, P-metric or standard size you can think of.
