: Intake Question from a new CLub X member
01Xterra 02-06-2007, 06:31 PM Hey everyone, i am a new member to Club X and was hoping to get a lil help with cold air intakes. I have a 2001 Xterra 4wd. The 3.3(non SC) doesnt have the most power or the greatest mph. I was wondering what the best cold air intake would be, if anyone knows, and also a couple upgrades that are worth the install fro better mpg. Thanks in advance.
fatkid_UH-60 02-06-2007, 08:07 PM i've had a K&N CAI for about three weeks now. better power and a smidgen better MPG

01Xterra 02-06-2007, 08:30 PM TY! ;) . I heard good things about the Volant CAI and im leaning towards it, but is there very much difference between other types? They seem too simple to have noticable gain differences. I guess im jus looking for peace of mind before i click "BUY". But i am excited to start modding my X, thats for sure.
Anthony 02-06-2007, 08:39 PM Welcome!!
I have the stock intake, but have heard the Volant getting best reviews.
json3904 02-06-2007, 09:09 PM Welcome to the club!!!!!! i have the stock intake but somewhere down the road i will be getting and upgrade and i think i will go with the volant, unless another catches my eye!

Kona Hawaii 02-18-2007, 01:04 PM Hello, There was a site that have the results of testing several aftermarket intakes.
For the top air intakes...the results was very, very close. K&N was one of them too!
Stay with name brands for replacement, quality, and warrantee's.
Anyone remember's the site? ...I can't remember anymore? ....Aloha
i don't know if its too late or not, but i heard it is difficult/impossible to access the headlight assembly once the volant CAI is installed... is this true?
fatkid_UH-60 03-19-2007, 10:03 AM i have K&N, but i would say it would be a pickle, cause that box is gonna be right up against it.
Kona Hawaii 03-22-2007, 01:33 AM Hello, Please do not expect a large increase in MPG with any cold air intake. It varies from X to X.
Every 100 lb of weight you can cut will increase about 2%-4% increase in mpg.
It was mention that by changing all the oils, (tranmissons, gears, engine oils to synthetic oils will the the MPG) Research this more!
The Xterra are not known for great mileage. Expect this and enjoy filling it up with LOTS of gas! ....just gasing here!!
..........Enjoy the ride....Aloha
