ive got an '08 4 liter with 26K miles that i bought used. i noticed when i bought it that it took longer than most cars to turn over when starting. after it starts, it runs perfectly. yesterday it just refused to turn over. the starter cranks and cranks but the engine wont catch and turn over. there's fuel in the car and the battery is charged. the check engine light is NOT on.

clues: it seems to be worse after the cars been off for a while.

my guess: i think its the fuel pump or something in that module.

what do you think?

I don't think it's the fuel pump...why would it run fine after starting if the fuel pump was problematic? I'm thinking either bad battery or bad starter ground. It seems that the starter is not getting enough cranking amps. It turns the engine over but not enough to catch and start. The fact that it is worse when the car's been off for a while makes me think it's the battery. Batteries have multiple cells; if one cell is bad, the battery will still work, but at reduced capacity and amperage. Have your battery checked out at O'reilly or Autozone, even Wal-Mart automotive can do it. Or the Nissan dealership, since you're still under factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. If the battery checks out, we'll see what else we can figure out.

take it to the dealer since its still under warranty...let them mess around with it. i wouldnt even touch it. it wont cost you a dime to take it to Nissan.

starter turns but it wont turn the engine over? starter not engaging the flywheel/pressure plate?
