Ok i have a ? i have heard on here numerus times that people take off the rear sway bar and never put it back on. I talked to my dad which is a mechanic amd he told me this is a verry bad idea. that the truck could roll cause the sway bar aint there to stop the body roll, i talked with ricer and he told me that he really dont feel a diffrence and i was wondering if anybody else has a opinion???????????? i would hate to be going down the road with my daughter in the back seat and have to swerve and roll cause i didnt have the bar on........ dose it really make that much diffrence

Hello, Yes removing the sway bars will give you more body roll on the streets, WHY do you think the Xterra's have them? ...makes them less chance of body rolls! You will have more steering control than without them. IT is safer on the streets with them on!!! (some will say it makes NO difference).

For OFF-roading taking them off gives you more control because the sway bars do not let the other side dip as much!

I could be wrong here...on my explantions....I am sure there are tons of guys who really knows the answer and can give better explantions on how removing the sway improves the handling in OFF-roading conditions.

Nissan Xterras are built higher off the ground than regular cars/trucks. Higher off the ground..than more chances of a roll overs.

Purpose of higher off the ground is more cleanance to go on dirt type of trails. Top heavy SUV's ...perform better with sway bars ON the streets.

May not make too much difference on daily driving if removed? BUT what happens in a emergency situtions? Avoiding a walker?...or the truck in front of you drop a big item on the road? and you had to make sharp turns at high speeds to avoid them?

Just my thoughts on this........I am planning on keeping mines ON.....most of my off-roading in the X ...is not for serious stuffs anyway.

I hope this sway's you to do the right thing here? sway-good-bye! Aloha

thanks im still debating, cause ricer told me when i put my lift on i could end up breaking it when i decide to play at the last min and dont take it off, but here is the thing that strikes me, when ricer and myself left his house yesterday we got on beltwat 8 in houston and i fokkowed him for a while, now we are both weaving through traffic and like i said i was behind him and i didnt see that nuch rokk, we were doing aboit 70-80 and if it dont have tremendous body roll at that speed when weaving in and out of trafic then i dont really see the reason for it you know what i mean, but thanks for the input.......

Lose the swaybar. Not only can you break it, but it smacks against the passenger side rear shock and can dent or snap the shock. It also robs you of rear suspension articulation, and it does not change the on-road ride a bit. My swaybar is living a quiet happy life in my garage.

I don't think this had anything to do with sway bars, but it's pretty cool!

first off - i dont appreciate the name calling

second - read up before you start calling folks dumb
none of us has noticed a difference in performance on or off road, and every one of us that has wheeled with it on has had it damage the shock
on a totally stock setup, it will damage the rear passenger side shock
what sounds dumb to you?
leaving it on so it can damage other suspension components?
or taking it off when there are no noticeable or measurable negative effects?

Nevermind the namecalling, do some research on any Xterra forum first.

Check out sway bar damage pics. This ticks me off when someone comes on here and after 5 posts says that removing the sway bar is dumb.

RESEARCH!!!!!!!

Seriously Hendrix, you are goijng to tick a lot of people off by just posting that something is stupid without looking into it whatsoever. A little peeved right now.

William. Wow. This post is almost a year old and you ressurected it for this?

Please, PLEEEEEEEASE, research more before you post comments like this. I don't think you were referring to anyone as "dumb", but more the idea/action of removing the sway-bar. I hope Im right.

Actually Webfur, IIRC, thats the one you DON"T want to take off. I could be very wrong here, but I believe because of the IFS the sway-bar doesn't really limit flex in the front.

WOW i have to say that that post is reckless and if you want to keep it on then go right ahead and when the shock gets a hole in it dint come crying to us.... I'm just going to leave it at that......
