Hello, I'm new to the forums here (and to car audio modifications...) I was installing the Scosche FM Modulator to my 2006 Xterra today (stock radio), but after hooking everything up, the radio would not turn on anymore. Even after removing the FM Modulator all together, the stereo still would not turn on.
All my other accessories (headlights, wipers, power sockets) work fine. None of the fuses in the passenger compartment nor under the hood seemed to be blown.
Anyone have any suggestions? Could I have messed up the wiring harness somehow? I tapped into the yellow wire on the radio for power, and grounded the black wire to a bolt. Thanks in advance for the help - it's so frustrating driving without music!
By the way - when I turned on my car for the first time after installation, the stereo ejected my CD... but then it would not do anything else.

sounds odd.
maybe the red wire should have been tapped instead?
the yellow is generally a constant "memory" wire.... while the red turns the stereo on with the acc position of the ignition. not too farmilliar with the stock stereos though

first thing that came to mind was the red wire should have been tapped but it could have worked going to the red but it would just stay on and possably drained your battery if you didnt use the X for a few days...
i dont see why it wouldnt work though.... have you checked your fuses??? you made sure the power and the ground did not touch right??? if any of the wires touched you could have shorted out the radio...
check the fuses then get back with us....

1. check fuse on the radio
2. make sure you have a good enough enough ground connection
3. pull out all fuses and check them (I was installing a radio in a friends car and shorted the dome lights and an overhead clock and that was causing power not to get to the HU. Just pull out all of the fuses check them and put them back.)
4. check and make sure red is connected to red and yellow is connected to yellow.
If it ejected your cd then some sort of power is getting to the radio probably a poor connection

Thanks guys - I checked every single fuse last night and found that one under the hood that I didn't check before was causing the whole problem. Stereo works fine now, but the FM modulator still doesn't work - but it's far better than having no sound at all. I'm going to tap into the red wire for power and see what happens.
I appreciate the help.

Ah yes, the infamous underhood radio fuse. Makes no sense for it to be there instead of in the cab. Glad you found it. I wonder how the radio still had power to eject a CD if that fuse was blown.
