: Why can't i get rear tire off?
pro2amendment 10-10-2009, 01:06 PM Trying to rotate the tires on my 92 civic.. I can't get either of the rear tires off. Am I making some bonehead move by not doing something obvious to remove them? Or are they just plain stuck...
makes me think there's some kind of procedural thing i'm overlooking, but damn it if I can figure it. I thought it was just jack it and remove it..
yes, i removed the lug nuts :)
TN4x4Xterra 10-10-2009, 01:09 PM Did you jack it up?
TN4x4Xterra 10-10-2009, 01:12 PM Sounds like your not the only one with that issue....
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_remove_rear_tires_on_a_1996_Honda_Civic _if_the_lug_nuts_are_off_and_the_tires_won't_come_ off
DanHall 10-10-2009, 01:14 PM If it's supported well smack the rim a couple of times with a rubber mallet. Remember that the rotors/drums are steel and you can get some rust in there that will bind things up a bit.
J Everett 10-10-2009, 01:14 PM Make sure all the lug nuts are off, and that the tire is clear of the ground, and kick the ever-living shit out of it, as far from the hub as you can get. It'll break loose. They get kinda rust welded to the hub sometimes, especially if you have drum brakes on the rear.
pro2amendment 10-10-2009, 01:15 PM yep. that sucker isn't budging - neither side. it's been 11 months since it's been removed but still - not unheard of. front will come right off.
I had both tires same side up on jack stands, nuts off - and crap - can't get it off. I tried the other side - same thing.
pro2amendment 10-10-2009, 01:17 PM OK - a lot of posts came in while typing - I was trying to kick teh MF out of t, pry it, and every thing else. I PB Blasted it.. I'll go give it anotehr try. Just wondering if I was overlooking something obvious that 'locks' it on - aside form teh nuts of course.
J Everett 10-10-2009, 01:18 PM Kick it harder!
pro2amendment 10-10-2009, 01:20 PM Here's a good wiki answers.. Gotta go get a mule :) I think I'll pass on driving with the nuts off.
Answer
Loosen all the lug nuts, but don't remove them. Then mule kick the edge of the rim with boots on. If that fails, take all of the lug nuts completely off, soak the back of the wheel with WD-40 and take that cross country road trip you've been meaning to take. Oh, and wear your seat belt!

Yeah - Wiki would have done it - all it needed was a good whack..
life is good again.. tires are rotated... thanks all!
dkswim 10-10-2009, 02:04 PM you could help prevent it in the future with some antisiez on the maiting face of the rim.
modxterra 10-10-2009, 07:18 PM next time hit it on the inside of the tire and rim. and dont forget to wire brush the mating surface
Silver Dude 10-10-2009, 09:57 PM Lightly spray paint the hub area so that it doesn't happen again.
Anti seize makes it worse in my experience, since the problem is corrosion of dissimilar metals, spreading another metal (zinc) doesn't help. My dad swears by anti seize on the hub area. Unfortunately, just last month my mom was stranded do to a flat which she could not remove even with a 2x4 do to the corrosion caused by the anti seize. Paint provides a corrosion barrier which works well.
Ricer-X 10-10-2009, 10:28 PM my 4runner wheels get stuck sometimes, i swift kick and they come off easy enough
RawkerStatus 10-10-2009, 11:26 PM If u have it well supported u can grab 1 of the other tires and roll it really hard towards the edge of the stuck rim and let it crash into it. I've launched a few of threm at work to get em off. Works every time.
alpine spirit 10-11-2009, 10:29 AM Kinda funny that happened to my Wifes Honda Element last year... took me about 5 min to figure out what the hell was going on.
