This folding shovel seems like a good idea to throw in a rear tote/gear box. For $5.99 you could buy 2 and keep one as a back up. I think I am going to grab one of these to keep in my truck. I know it's cheap and probably not the best choice for those who might have to dig out of heavy rocky terrain but I live here in Illinois where I would most likely use it for mud/snow applications so I think it'd hold up. If not, oh well..$6 isn't a big loss ya know?

dude just get a military entrenching tool, its like 30$ new from a surplus store. I think you can get new ones at like a sports authority store too. supper durable and very compact. you can get nice rubber cases for them too at a surplus store for like $10.
you should check into that. and you can also get a cheap plastic shovel from like walmart or target for snow. I have one that is like a cheap version of an avalanche shovel. works great and was like $15 at walmart and is compact and collapsable too.

I have one military kind and one el cheapo from flea market. both held up fine but i'd use military version for places that require lot of digging....el cheapo for things that I wouldn't care if it breaks or don't want to damage my military version

A shovel is better then no shovel.
I remember looking at that one in the store, but found it to small for timely usage.

It is junk, someone gave me one about a year ago, it broke the first time I used it. The only way that it is still useable is that i welded it all in place, and it is still junk.
A good entrenching tool is a much better option. I even took an old one with a broken handle and made it so that I can use the handle to my high lift as the regular handle. Just one less thing to lug around

+1 on the military E-Tool. It folds up smaller than that, it's tougher, and you can get it with a T-handle on the end that gives you much better leverage than a straight handle.
I never leave the driveway without my E-tool in the back.
