hey all i am new to the forum i have a 2001 xterra se 4x4 that just turn over 100k. never really done anything special to it. I was kind of thinking of trading it in for a time but for some reason lately i have come to enjoy it more and now wanting to fix it up. The first think i need to do is to change the all the belts on it. the only problem with that is i am not really sure what to loosen to get all 3 belts off and if i need to go ahead and replace the pulleys, and i have never replaced a timing belt before. i dont know if i wont to try and do this myself or take it to a shop and get it done. i have some mechanical know how and i have tried going by the shop manual but it is kind of vague. if anyone has some pointers i would greatly appreciate the advice

here is an awesome write up on changin the timing belt. Its really not to bad if you take your time. Either way get it done before it goes. The other belts are easy as pie to change with the proper tools.

Welcome. I am new here as well. I have an old X as well, 2000 model with 135k miles. it's the only vehicle I have ever bought new. I appreciate it more and more - I drive a Honda to work and my wife gets to drive the X everyday. :( I am like you, was thinking about trading it in for a newer model. But I think I am going to enjoy fixing it up as much as possible. These guys (and gals) here have already been helpful to me - I hope they are helpful to you.
