Awesome!

I wish we could get the same push through Auburn to get their Ected made for a 33-spline. They have the only LSD/locked diff that I know of. Everybody else is strictly open/locked. And it's electric.

All of my mods are on the back burner now. My next step is crawlers and locker. Having a cheaper alternative to the ARB could bump that possibility up a few months.

C'mon Lock-Rite!!!

id personally rather have an open diff than an unreliable lockrite in the rear. dont you guys ever drive in loose stuff such as sand, gravel or snow?

Glad to see they are finally considering us. The need for that locker has been there for years. I know this is wishful thinking, but maybe they will see the sales and consider selectable options.

this is good news...has been following this over on http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/

either that my ARB was close to $1K it is well worth the extra $$...like being able to lock & unlock the diff by a switch.

we need more options for us Nissan guys. Wish Aussie Lockers made a locker for us.

I'm still gonna go with an ARB unless something else selectable becomes available. Just thought I'd put up the info for everyone who didn't see it yet.

TJ....there are only so many emails i am willing to send to them. I even offered to drive to Aussie in Rochester, leave the truck there for a weekend for them to measure everything and give them a ridiculous (in my opinion) amount of money for a prototype. :usuck:

So would this be an alternative to ARB?

The only problem is hunting down the open carrier.

Lock rights don't generally work with LSD carriers.

I have LSD so guess I'm out on this one and looks like ARB is still on mod list which will be done one day in future.

Wait i'm confused, i thought they were designing them for our LSD's. What truck uses the 33 spline with an open diff??? Don't they already have a locker that works with the 31 spline??? Wouldn't they try to design something for our 33's???

not all first generation xterras came with limited slip rears, plenty came with open differentials...i believe all first gens used the 33 spline version of the axle, and frontiers previously used the 31 spline and later switched

yes, there is already a lock right locker (or someother lunchbox locker) for the 31 spline axles

There are a lot more open carriers out there that there are LSD. For everyone out there that has a LSD and wants to do the lockright, there will be plenty of people willing to trade there open for a LSD. Assuming that they dont want to do a locker in the future themselves.

Even if you go the junkyard route, you could at least pick up a set of spare shafts for cheap.

is a lunch box locker worth the money saved over say an arb......other selectability are they built just as strong? i am usually on a tight budget so it would be nice to have but not if they are not really worth it

Detroit used to make lockers, now only lock right has them. As far as I know they are the ratcheting style lockers that spool when you press the throttle (pure drifting awesomeness)

As far as I know the H233B axle was always equipped with an LSD carrier starting the same year as the facelift, which means all '02, '03, and '04 xterras have an LSD in the rear axle.

This means you would need to find a non-4wd '99,'00 or '01 Xterra to find a 33 spline H233B without an LSD. 4wd Frontiers were 33 splined in the rear starting in '00, I am going to ASSUME they were all LSD'ed as well.

Much easier said than done.

I seriously doubt there will be plenty of people with 2wd non-lsd'ed xterras willing to let you rip into their truck.

Most people with 2wd xterras aren't vehicle enthusiasts (they are soccer moms) so they wouldn't care for an LSD anyway.

I also don't see how you came up with the: "There are a lot more open carriers out there that there are LSD." since 2wd xterras had the H233B without an LSD only before '02 and all 4wd frontiers that had an H233B axle (as far as I know) had an LSD. 2wd frontiers have the 31 spline H233B.

Nothing beats an ARB, except maybe an OX locker, which doesn't exist for the H233B axle. Lunch Box Lockers replace the carrier with one that spools the spider gears under throttle v. an air locker that spools when you turn it on until you turn it off.

They are basically a less expensive and less comfortable replacement to the ARB, but come on now... this is a truck you're talking about, not a mini van. Its suposed to drive like crap on the road.

And apparently I am up the creek without a paddle for a lock right since my xterra has a rear LSD. I might as well just clutch the disc pack since I can't afford an ARB and I am not going to downgrade to a 31 spline axle to run a locker.

Cheers :D

you have a 33 spline. only earlier frontiers had the 31 splines.

the only thing comparable to an arb in strength is a detroit locker or an ox locker. i doubt we will ever have either of those available to us.

So basically i'm still out of luck unless i want to hit up a junk yard get an open diff and throw a lockrite in. ok so i got all excited for nothing. wonderful.

And this is IF they come out with a locker for the 33 spline axle shafts.

You can always get a 31 spline axle out from under a 2wd frontier and call it a day, I wouldn't... but if you want a locker THAT bad. But, it would probably cost you the same as just hooking up an ARB.

All xterras have a 33 splined H233B in the rear, majority are equipped with an LSD.

One option you still have is the Clutch pack, adding discs to your rear LSD should cost about 60 bucks in parts and whatever you need to do to take the carrier out and put the discs in.

I am going to do this after I get my bumper, but I am going to add the discs, an extended breather and synthetic fluid all at once to the rear axle.
