Well the bad news is I'll be needing tires in about 2-3 months, the good news is that I can get some black steel wheels with some AT or MT tires.

My question is, I want to get a more aggresive offset on the wheels, so I'm guessing 15x8, I know that If I go too far out with the wheels they will rub. what is the widest, tallest, and most aggresive offset I can go with just a torsion crank?

thanks guys, I'm trying to plan ahead here.

I forgot to mention, i want the wheels to stick out about an inch past the fenders, i like that wider stance.

thanks guys.

I'm not sure what you're going for? If you want them to stick out an INCH from the fender, they will basically hit the fender any time you go over a bump.

For 15x8's you'll want 5" backspacing, but you'll still have some rubbing issues.

The largest tire you can fit with just a t-bar crank is a 32" tire, but you'll still have to trim plastic for them to fit properly.

Of you course if you don't care about rubbing at all, or you don't mind doing major trimming, you can probably go up to 33x12.5 tire on a 15x8 rim with 4" backspacing. However, you will not want to go over any bumps at all, or it will be a tire vs. fender shred fest.

I think 31's would be fine. what part of the fender are we talking about being hit? Are we talking about the rear of the fender where the plastic or the top of the fender?

I just don't like how truck look with the wheels tucked up undernieth. I like the stance to look a little wider.

I don't see the point to the lower control arms other than being able to get rid of the torsion bars.

31's fit with no problem on stock backspacing. But when you have less backspacing (wider stance), they will hit the fenders on the edge of the wheelwells and also in the area of the mudflaps.

That truck is not only lifted significantly, but also has fiberglass fenders, which gives it HUGE clearance for the front wheels.

It's fine if you want the wider look, but it will not be functionally practical. Everyone that goes for that look ends up with rubbing issues.. it's just the way the Xterra goes.

Yea I noticed that the Xterra fenders suck. If you look at some of the other pictures, it doesn't have the fiberglass fenders.

oh wait I was wrong, it did have the fenders, looks like they been 3 different colors.

I don't mind getting fiberglass fenders.

how good is that coil conversion from total chaos? proab cost a pretty penny

well after looking at other 3" suspension kits, I have come to the conclusion that all the kits do is crank the torsion bars, the upper arms are built longer and with a different angle. They are built that way so they take out the angle from the ball joint.

The arms I can make at work, noooooooo problem, but I need to find some bushings for the arms, I might have to machine some bushings if I can't find what I need.

well, I am running 33's on 16x8 with 4.25" back spacing and NEVER had any rubbing issues. I will snap some pics of mine this weekend, as I am putting my new tires on Saturday.

Not sure why he would shred his fenders if he got 5" BS with 31's when going over bumps. Before I put my BL on, my 33's never touched the fenders going of bumps.

I said he would shred with 33's on 15x8 with 4 inch backspace, not 31's on 5"bs.

ok at this point I'll settle for wheels that are flush with the black moulding on the fenders! lol

Somebody needs to make a kit.

4.75" to 5" bs...the closer to 5.5" the better...

chairmnofthboard

ok, So I want flush with fenders, so 15x8 4.75 offset?

Ricer-X
04-01-2008, 09:53 PM
so you want ever so slightly wider than stock?
stock backspacing is 5.5"
i put 1.5" wheel spacers on my stockers, which leaves me with 4" bs
and they are pretty flush, they stick out maybe 1/4"

edit: but i have a 3" suspension lift and 11.5" wide tires
you may rub with only 4" bs but i dunno with the 10.5" tires, you would only need to trim a lil plastic to steer
with 4.75 each tire will stick out 3/4" further than before

I run 31x10.50/15 on 15x8 with 4.75" bs and they stick out past the fenders ever so slightly...

First off not only does the Silver Xterra have a coilover conversion, it has extended axles, longtravel kit, and fiberglass fenders. If i remember the wheels are 4 or 3.75. Its Davids X. Total Chaos cost around 5K if you do most of the work.
The first shrock x has a SAS so the front is wider. Not sure on the wheels.

i have 31" tires with no mods and have absolutely no rub, iv noticed that some XE's have wider cut out fenders then SE's (stock) the SE have lesser cut fenders having metal trimming depending on the year......

Perfect!!! do you happen to know what your OFFSET is? all the wheel places go by offset.

unless im mistaken offset+backspacing= wheel width

You are mistaken. Offset if how far the hub mounting surface is off the center line of the wheel.

Ok, so I figured 4.75 is about +6 offset. I ordered the wheels today.

Hopefully They will be in my friday, so I can mount the tires.

I have 15X8's with 4.75" of backspacing...running 31's and stock suspension I had no rubbing issues....so all should be good to go....

Wheel & tires are on. I took off the mud flaps to trim the and I broke one. Oh well.

Thanks Rdan for the specs. Exactly what I was looking for.

I know, Been busy with work & my car. Kinda got burned out on the Xterra. But after adding the wheels & tires, I might have a second wind!

Hopefully this weekend I'll do the brakes, Alignment and fix the auto locking 4wd hub. The plastic ring broke last week, so no 4wd :(

It looks good, I'll post pix when I can.
