: I took my street bike off roading yesterday...

Yes, I know it's not the smartest thing to do, but I took my Suzuki SV1000S for a little unintentional spin down a hill yesterday. I was riding Latigo Canyon Road in Malibu with some friends when it happened. I was in an easy left hander that I've railed down on numerous occasions before, went a little wide, tightened my line... next thing I knew I was sliding on my ass along the road, watching my bike disappear down an embankment.

I'm totally fine (most important), just irritated that my formerly shiny bike is all scratched up and needs a new shifter and other bits. It too 6 of us with ropes to get her outta there. Somebody had a wrench so we were able to click her into 3rd gear for the ride home. Thank God for liter V-twins, because she has the torque to get up and running from a stop in 3rd gear.

I'm still not sure how it happened, because I was in total control and not really pushing it all that much.... Gremlins (read: operator error, a small pebble or both) I guess.

Her she is waiting for us to rescue her.

A little dusty and beat up, but still rideable...

I think knobby tires and a 6" lift might help as well...

Glad you are ok! That sucks that your bike got messed up but at least it's mostly cosmetic...

Thanks man. It happens, just like rock damage will occur if you spend too much time in the mountains driving your Xterra through things that most people would consider unpassable...

It's a risk we are willing to take. Which is why most of do things like bring emergency kits, extra blankets, and in my case yesterday, race leathers and a full-face helmet.

Actually I was exaggerating a bit... truth is, I some how managed to do most of the sliding on my elbows and knees. But my leathers are padded and other than being a bit sore I'm a-okay!

Glad your ok man. Wearing my leathers saved my ass when I layed my bike down. Remember theres two types of riders. Those who have gone down and those who are going to go down. Always wear the gear.

Hahaha! True dat. And to quote my friend Suzanna who fractured her skull riding without a helmet when she was a teenager,

"You should only wear a full-face helmet if you have a full face."
