I drive on some pretty rough roads and I was wondering if its possible to soften up the 2006 Xterra suspension to achieve a more comfortable ride like the Pathfinder. I realize that the ride is a product of the springs and shock absorbers that come a truck chassis. Does anyone know if the stiffness comes from the springs or from the shock absorbers or is it a combination of both? I am hoping that changing out just the factory shock absorbers would produce a more comfortable ride.

True, but the rough ride would be the springs. Soften up the springs and you won't feel as many bumps. The problem is the new X's are already really soft, so soft that the rear end can and will bottom out.

For a softer ride, it's the springs you'll want to deal with.
