so the arctic front moved thru last nite, temps were at 39f at 5:30 this morn. and are steadily dropping, a few minutes ago in sugarland we had light snow for about 5min... here is the weather bulletin:

FORT BEND-HARRIS-LIBERTY- WHARTON- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF... CLEVELAND...DAYTON...EL CAMPO... HOUSTON...HUMBLE...KATY...LIBERTY... MISSOURI CITY...PASADENA... PIERCE... RICHMOND...ROSENBERG...SUGAR LAND... TOMBALL...WHARTON 537 AM CST MON JAN 15 2007

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE TONIGHT.

A STRONG SURGE OF COLD ARCTIC AIR WILL BE FILTERING INTO THE AREA THROUGH THE DAY AND TONIGHT. PERIODS OF OVERRUNNING RAINFALL ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THOUGH MOST OF THE THE DAY AS AN UPPER LEVEL IMPULSE MOVES OVERHEAD. THERE MAY BE A BRIEF LULL IN PRECIPITATION THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...ESPECIALLY WEST OF INTERSTATE 45... AS THE CURRENT DISTURBANCE MOVES OFF TO THE NORTHEAST. HOWEVER... ANOTHER DISTURBANCE SHOULD BE MOVING IN FROM THE SOUTHWEST LATER TONIGHT AND TUESDAY.

TEMPERATURES AROUND 40 EARLY THIS MORNING SHOULD BE SLOWLY FALLING THROUGH THE DAY AND SHOULD FALL TO OR BELOW FREEZING LATER THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT.

AS THE TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW FREEZING...RAIN WILL BEGIN FREEZING ON CONTACT WITH THE SURFACE. INITIALLY... THE THREAT FOR ICE ACCUMULATION WILL BE ON ELEVATED STRUCTURES SUCH AS BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. TRAVEL WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS. AS TUESDAY MORNING APPROACHES...A COMBINATION OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL BE POSSIBLE AND MORE SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS WOULD BE EXPECTED. IN ADDITION TO THE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL...TREES AND POWERLINES WILL INCREASINGLY BE AT RISK OF FALLING.

THIS WATCH MAY EVENTUALLY NEED TO BE UPGRADED TO AN ADVISORY OR A WARNING LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT FROZEN PRECIPITATION ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. PLEASE CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST UPDATED FORECASTS ON THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION.

We have about 1/2" of ice covering everything here right now. We got a winter storm warning last night, in effect until tonight. We've been getting freezing rain all day... yuck... I HATE ice.

It snowed 8 inches last night here, it's suppose to drop to -5 tonight. Around here, anything over 20 is considered a heat wave, 40 is when I stop wearing my jacket. All that ice didn't help matters any, but at least it's warm for you all down there. We had a tragic accident here in the small town I live in, an 18 year old kid ran his sled into some open water on lake Tetonka and drown last night, even with all of that, the lake is covered in fish houses and pickup trucks, go figure. If you go to www.kstp.com they have the story, it happened out in front of my house a few hundred yards. It's not the sledder on lake Minnetonka, but a couple stories down. That story about the lake Minnetonka sledder is out where pavementsucks lives, he's in mound.

It hit -20 last night, so much for the -5 bit. It's suppose to hit -15 tonight. For any of you who haven't experienced -20 (thats below zero), it's painful to any exposed skin the instant you walk outside. Thats as cold as the inside of your deepfreeze out in your garage. My X started right up this morning, I was very impressed, but the rear hatch wouldn't stay up, and the clutch pedal was near impossible to press in. Starting your vehicle when it's that cold is very hard on the mechanicals.
