: Body Lift really safe??
BurnMac42 01-13-2007, 05:32 PM like the title says i am wondering if a body lift is really that safe. My younger brother has been into trucks and off roading longer than i have ( i just sold my Z to get an X) and from what I have read the best lift to get a bigger tire and hence increasing ground clearance is to get a 2" body lift. My question is how much does that mess with the crash safety ability of the car. My brother informed me that alot of the jeep crowd apparaently avoids this route because of the length of the bolts and the possbility of them shearing and the body sliding forward in an accident? Now from reading it seems many many members do this lift and i was wondering if this is just an overrated fear or does it really sacrifice alot of structural integrity?
Anthony 01-13-2007, 09:31 PM As far as I know, the body lift does not reduce the structural integrity of the vehicle, even in a crash.
Jeeps have a history of issues with body lifts because the body tends to rust/rot near the body mounts. This can cause the body to actually shear off of the mounts in severe cases. Jeeps also have fewer body mounts.
BurnMac42 01-14-2007, 10:09 AM ok cool thanks that makes me feel a lot better about getting a 2" lift!

newburgfdz71 01-23-2008, 03:12 AM in my opinion bl's are for looks i would sooner go for sl but if you want to run a tire thats bigger than a a 32 in the x world then you eiather need a bl to go with an sl or you need to have the money to do the sas
Drake 01-23-2008, 10:53 AM Just a PML and a 2" BL will let you go with 33"s with only minor trimming of the mudflaps if any at all.
NateDawgG 08-13-2008, 02:19 PM Question:
I know SL is Suspension Lift, BL is Body Lift, but what do PML, SLR, UCA, & SAS mean?
Thanks!
Keyz18 08-13-2008, 02:32 PM PML = Poor man's lift
SAS = Solid Axel Swap
Jdubbau02 08-13-2008, 02:35 PM Pml - poor mans lift
slr - spencer low racing they went out of business but were one of the best
uca - upper control arm
sas - solid axel swap , removing the front IFS , independent front suspension, in favor of a solid axel
NateDawgG 08-13-2008, 02:39 PM Got it! Thanks.
Keyz18 08-13-2008, 02:57 PM Nate brings up a good point...
Is there a way for the moderators to create a glossary for the terms we use? Maybe somewhere on the home page? Any thoughts on this?

Keyz18 08-13-2008, 03:21 PM Yeah, that's great! But, is there a way to put a link at the top or something to say Glossary? Might help the new guys as well as the non-members who are searching through our site for quick information...

x2 on that! I've had to figure out some of the words but after spending some time on here, I was able to figure it out but a glossary would be faster!
