Hey,
I just purchased a new 2006 Xterra in June and recently had an aftermarket CD player installed. After this my airbag light came on and is flashing. The guy who installed the CD player says this happens on Nissans when you remove the factory radio and I have to go to the dealership to get them to turn it off. Has this happened to anyone else?? If so, how much did it cost to turn it off?? Is this guy lying to me??
Also, does anyone have a sub in there Xterra and can recommend one to me! thanks

hey, welcome to the club

yeah, the guy is right. however, the light only comes on like that if when the cd player is being installed, he turned the key and put power to the vehicle to check it without the dash panel being installed back on and the wires for the airbag snesor on the pax seat connected.

i had the same thing happen to my x, took it to the dealer, and they fixed it for free. it only took about 5 mins for them to fix, and they said they see it happen all the time.

i would let the guy who did your install know that if power is applied to the vehicle at anytime while that passenger seat airbag sensor is disconnected, it will trip the sensor. and, if the dealer charges you for the fix, i would make the guy pay for it, since it isn't just a "nissan" problem. if this was an audio shop that did your install, they should know better, since they are supposed to be professionals. if it was a friend, give em a good kick in the butt and let them know what they did wrong so they don't do it to anyone else's car.

on the bright side, there is no damage done to your airbag system or anything, you just have a light that needs to be reset, even if it is a pain in the butt to see that thing flashing at you everytime you are driving. hope this answers your question. good luck with the new x

as for a sub recomendation, infinity perfect 12", or the infinity reference 12" since the perfects get kinda pricey, but you'll need an amp to push those, but you will love it. if you dont want to go into upgrading the speakers and putting another amp for your speakers than just get one 12" infinity

Don't bother taking it to the dealer, it's an easy fix.

i think it might be an xterra only problem and not a nissan wide, but not 100% sure on that. i did the exact same thing putting the headunit into my xterra and had the same problem, only i didn't know there was a self fix for it. the dealer hooked me up for free in about 5 mins, so it all turned out fine. now we all know that there's a home fix, and that's even better-
