: I Got A Dumb Question!
Ricer-X 01-11-2007, 09:30 AM so i have what looks like 2 radiators, i was told byone person that it was a transmission cooler, and i was told by someone else that it was for the air conditioning.
does anyone know?
i would assume its for the ac since the person who told me so showed me their 96 maxima had the same pair(not exactly of course)
so then i proceed to look online for a transmission cooler, and all i find is for the 00-02 x, no info regarding the 04 and transmission coolers.
rexspeedmaster 01-11-2007, 09:44 AM Could also be an oil cooler. Not sure what they look like, but I know that some people who own WRXs have them in ultra high performance applications. Maybe something having to do with offroading making the engine really hot. IDK just a suggestion cause i am def not an xterra expert... lol
Anthony 01-11-2007, 11:30 AM The one in front, directly behind the grill, is the air conditioning condensor. I can tell you this with 100% certainty, becuase I recently replaced mine.
There is not a separate tranny cooler in the X, but the tranny fluid is routed through radiator as an aux cooler.
Edit to add: Only the automatic transmission is cooled by the radiator, not the 5spd.
json3904 01-11-2007, 07:18 PM oh well i guess i was wrong then ricer-x, i really thought it was a tranny cooler!!!!! and buy the way to whoever wants to know i was the dumb ass that told him it was the tranny cooler!!!! I GUESS I WAS WRONG.....

Anthony 01-11-2007, 08:22 PM don't worry, most people don't even notice that there are two separate things there, they just assume that the AC condenser is the front of the radiator. You're one step ahead of the rest of the world just by noticing it. :)
json3904 01-11-2007, 08:29 PM thanks i feel much better
hendrix89 03-04-2008, 09:02 AM no it is a oil cooler....not a transmission cooler...if you look at your oil filer there is a oil sandwich adaptor between the oil filter and the block

So you are looking at an 07 right?
Ricer-X 03-04-2008, 09:31 AM enjoy resurrecting year old threads?
soccerbrace 03-04-2008, 09:49 AM Hendrix-we here at Clubxterra would appreciate it if you put the year of your Xterra in either your signature like Ricer above or in your location like mine to the right.
Additionally, it seems that you have only read the first post, drawn a conclusion, posted and left. I am not sure if you follow up on your posts but you have feedback on your last couple of posts.
I ask nicely that you please:
A-do not tell someone that a modification that they are doing is dumb. You did that when referencing the the sway bar removal to Json3904. If you read through the entire thing, then you would understand that Json3904 had questions too when he removed his. These questions were quickly put to rest with other's approval. It was a thoroughly discussed and researched topic that I really suggest looking into.
B-learn the differences between the first and second generations. In case you are unsure, there are 2 generations. The first generation was produced for 5 years. 2000-2004, and the second gen was produced for 4 years. 2005-2008. Please acknowledge these differences and make sure that you attach your year to your signature or your location.
Asking nicely....
json3904 03-04-2008, 06:21 PM ^^^^^^^ agreed... read through out the tread and then reply....
nimnifnof 03-04-2008, 08:26 PM not certain what year hendrix is talking about but for the 2nd Gen X's (specifically 06 with auto) we have separate coolers for:
-transmission (separate from the radiator),
-radiator,
-ac condenser,
-and another small cooler.
Have to get under it to see where it goes and didn't feel like taking the covers off tonight. I would suspect that it'd be for the oil. Tough it is pretty small, about half the size of a baseball card. The tranny cooler is about the size of a ??? a normally sized textbook? lol Can't think of anything that all could imagine. :P
In most cars the ac condenser is usually about the same size, height & width, of the radiator, but much much thinner.
