Does no good having it sittin' in the driveway :mocking:

I know! It's not fully sone yet. On the D-side there is an inverter and fire extinguisher mounted, and on the P-side there will be a compressor and maglight mounted. There are a few tweaks I gotta do to the basket(not pictured), and then it will be done.

This is made by Concept customs and WILL NOT BE MASS PRODUCED because "it is a huge PITA"

Thanks.

Dustin, do you see those 2 loops? Well, on one side, I have 2 pieces of steel going down and I have an inverter mounted there now, and on the opposite side, I am going to put my air compressor. Waiting to buy air compressor:) About $180 away-that's about 2 weeks until I have that amount to spare. Then, I am going to powdercoat it black, and put some trim on it. It is going to be sweet. You will have to wait about 3 weeks from now for the final, painted, amps mounted, fully functional result.

Ricer-X

thats pretty damn slick man i look forward to seeing it

id like to build something that can get my damn floorjack and toolbox off my cargo floor, but, thats some pretty heavy shit

J Everett
09-28-2009, 11:59 AM
James, I await the final result anxiously. I'm very tempted to copy the idea, but I promise if I do, I'll always give credit for the idea to you. It's a brilliant idea, and I gotta tell ya, I was nervous the first time I saw all your amps and such mounted to a traditional Lobo rack. It'll be nice to see everything bolted up to a sturdier frame.

Dumb question, what's a LOBO?

J Everett
09-28-2009, 12:31 PM
Lobo is the Spanish word for wolf. What it has to do with cargo shelves in Xterras is anyone's guess... (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10519&highlight=lobo+rack)

So to put stuff in or get stuff out of the shelf you have to do it from the back seat i pressume? i see a hinge there

Probably wouldn't be too difficult in future iterations to hinge both sides?

those bends look like they are mandrel, not crush? What size tube is that? 3/4-1"?

I could probably make these up pretty easily once I move to my new garage if your guy doesn't want to.

soccerbrace
09-29-2009, 09:57 PM
right, the stuff that I have up there is camping/emergency gear.

There is a hinge that opens up, and there will be a monitor there for DVD's before bedtime. Like I said, an improved lobo rack.

The tube is 1" and the basket is Brake bent. I do not want hinges on both sides actually.

The plan is awesome access when camping, and the ability to maintain the same visibility as with the other lobo rack.

And building this rack was ANYTHING but easy. We had to re-design it SO many times. It was incredible.

Sorry about the last pic, I cannot rotate it bc there is something wrong with Photobucket at the moment.

Anyway, That is a 3Dcell maglight, this maglight holder that had to be modified, a steel fire extinguisher holder that was welded on there, a Kidde fire extinguisher with a gauge, a Tripp-lite 750 inverter, and a VIAIR 480P. We mounted the Viair with 4 nuts welded on the back and washers with wingnuts so that it could be quick mounted and dismounted for portable operation. The rack is designed so that rear cargo cover thing can still be fully operational as well. I will hang my stereo amplifiers upside down from the rack after it is back from powder coating.

I believe he is mounting it in the cargo area. The way its setup he will still have a lot of room underneath to put stuff since his compressor, fire extinguisher, flashlight, ect are mounted to the rack itself.

Actually the previous owner did something with the sub and it is not even there actually, but I have plans for subs in the future. The Battery re-location wasn't TOO bad, but I am going to go with a second relocatioin too. I am going to mount it underneath the floofboard and have it accessible from there. So I think that you are on the right track. I like that mine are warm and not affected by the weather, but at the same time, I wish I would have put it more above the axle. There is going to be a relocation of that stuff sometime soon.

As for the personal attack, maybe you should think twice about those kinds of things. Just because you didn't use the word fuck, doesn't make it any less of an attack. Practice what you preach.

Yeah, it did occur to me that you might have had the same question, but even more so, it occured to me that you purposefully want to annoy me. Example:your signature. I told you to not be calling people stupid, and called you out publicly. Now that is your signature: the same thing I called you out on so that I see it every single time you post.

He's been a member for a long while. He is often updating his site, and there continue to be more and more Xterra products for sale. He may one day do that but not anytime too soon. Possibly if you were local, but I will let you contact him, and who knows? he might!:)

And if you do not want to start anything here dude, change your signature, and watch how you talk to new people and quit being demeaning to others. Then we will be fine. I am posting this publicly because I do not think you understood the PM, and I want people to know that when people complain about you, (which they have) it gets handled. It is obvious that you like to push peoples buttons. That makes us want to pust the Ban button.

(This is a general statement) I also want people to know that if they cannot follow rules or if they cannot be friendly, then they are going to be called out publicly if it is minor, and a PM will be sent if it continues. Of course everything will be on a case by case basis.

That rack is awesome, yet another thing to add to my mod list. I'm so tired of my recovery gear slamming around loose in the trunk. Exterior racks don't work for me as people can easily steal. Most peoples Lobo racks I've been concerned with accident safety. Big huge shelf held with small screws and a small ledge to prevent stuff falling forward. If I was to pile on my compressor, tools, shackles and tow strap it would be at its limit. Your rack looks tough enough to possibly strengthen the roof as well. Obviously, not a roll cage but hey it's something.

Gentlemen, please. This is no way to handle this discussion. Flame wars never end well.

Absolutely right... I left a post last night about crappy attitudes, I have since deleted it, something about pot calling kettle black.. I think? I had my own VERY CRAPPY attitude (and it wasn't against anyone here - I have some awesome neighbors!). Mac, I'm sorry. Can we all just have a nice big group hug?

To be very direct about your question, I'm in the business to fabricate, so whatever a guy wants, he gets. I'll build almost anything for someone. In James case, he got a lot from me because he is also a friend, and looking back on the effort involved in this build, I would do it again, but it will definately cost a hell of a lot more.
