Been skulking around here awhile, decided it's time to join up. While my Xterra is "mine", it's my daughter who's the primary driver. It's a great little truck, I really enjoy it when I get to take it out.

I do have a question though. I haven't gotten the shop manual on it yet, and it has a weird problem--the dash gauges just go completely blank while driving. It keeps running, but nothing shows. Anybody knows what gives???

Ah computers....that's why I can't wait to finish my simple good-old '68 Cougar!!

Thanks, John

Welcome.

Check the fuses?

Yep, tried that. I haven't traced all of the wires yet, but searching here it sounds like it might be anywhere front-back. They're not off all the time--it's intermittent, they'll go off, stay off for a while, then come back on. The dial needles all go to zero, the gas gauge goes to "extra full", the ODO numbers disappear, and the cruise goes out--but it keeps on running. The Family just took it on an extended trip to KY, and it did this several times for varying lengths of time. Does that sound like a short somewhere? I've also read about relays "overheating" and "cooling", cycling like this..........

Welcome to CX, from a fellow Louisiana resident! Sounds like the main power wire to the cluster is shorting out, or the ground is bad. I don't know which wire it is, but someone on the forum most likely has the wiring diagram. Post a question in the repairs forum. Someone who knows more than me will post up to help you out.
