: Help!!! 33'' X 12.5 fit on OEM 15''rims?
Trailz 09-17-2009, 09:32 AM Hi!
Just picked up some sick baja MTs... they are 33'' 12.5 15
I went to the tire shop to get them installed and the said my rims are too narrow... (he mesured them and they were 7.5'') He then moved to try to sell me 600$ black steel rims... I said i'd think about it... but really don't want to spend that kind of $ on steel rims!
Was he just trying to make a sale or is this true?
If I need new rims... Where's a good/cheap place I could buy them?
Last question... the sales guy also told me the 33'' would come out the fender about 4'' .... is that true? If it is... How come I see a lot of X with 33s and the tire doesn't go that far out?
Thanks,
Nick
Oh- my 2''BL is presently been installed ... I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
dmshea13 09-17-2009, 09:40 AM summitracing.com go there and get the same steel rims for cheap i dont know what size u will need but 600 for steel is crazy. someone else will hit on the size good luck buddy
BigDog107 09-17-2009, 09:43 AM They will fit up fine on stock rims.
Steeze 09-17-2009, 09:45 AM Your fine the tires will fit on your stock rims just fine... The shop is screwing with you, that's way too much for steel wheels, he's trying to make a sell.
and no the tire will not stick out 4" past your fender... tell them to mount the tires and then point out all the bullshit they spewed.
Yeah I know you can put 12.50's on an 8" wheel because that's what I run.
I'm not totally sure about the 7.5" but I wouldn't put it past them to try to tell you that you need different wheels - how wide were the ones they tried to sell you? I was even told that some shops balk at putting the 12.50's on an 8".
tell them to mount the tires and then point out all the bullshit they spewed.
No. Better yet, tell them to pound sand, point out their BS, and then take your truck to a different shop to have it done so they don't get any money.
silverbullet 09-17-2009, 09:58 AM Yeah. Some place won't mount a 12.50 to anything smaller than 8 inch rim but i don't see why you'll have a problem on the stock rims.
I'd find myself a better shop.
BigDog107 09-17-2009, 10:01 AM They won't do it because its against "spec". Some 12.50s will wear irregularly mounted on a rim against spec. Its hard to say though....because by the time these wear wrong it will be like 30,000 miles and you will want new tires anyway...
FWIW, my tires are too wide for my wheels too.
The manufacturers spec out suggested max wheel widths. Ignoring those specs voids their crappy warranties. So, the tire shop is doing their job in letting you know, but some will do it anyway if you insist on it and are willing to accept the responsibilities involved.
I called Nitto to find my recommended PSI for towing. I told the lady on the phone I'm running them on OEM wheels. She asked "you were told that those wheels are narrower than recommended, weren't you??". So i told her the tire shop did their due diligence and she said "good, I just need to make sure" then she asked how well it's working out for me and I told her "it seems to be working great so far". So she looked up the specs did some research and told me I need to be at 43psi.
So, that's kinda how it all works. :D
Trailz 09-17-2009, 11:08 AM OK!! Thanks a lot everyone....
I really had a feeling that tire shop was trying to skeeze some $ out of me.... They were trying to sell me 10'' wide rims..... Once most mod parts i've ordered will be on the truck, i'll post some pics! (try to make some of you jaleous!!! hahahaha) ;-)
Have a nice day!
Nick

You are soooooo ''on the ball''. I called them & they quoted me 250$ shipped!!!
I'll keep their # in case something goes wrong with my OEM wheels!!!!
Thanks!:wink-big:
What mods do you have?
I suggest the 15x8 Cragar Soft 8's. 4.75 backspacing.
Looks good with 33x12.50's.
You will have to trim a bit here and there though.
Trailz 09-17-2009, 12:05 PM Right as of now - I have no mods! I only bought the Xterra to haul both my ATVs .... ATVs got stolen.... (I better not find those who did that for their well been) So I decided to put a little money on the X...
So far, i've purchased: 2'' BL, AAL, 3'' Shackles, Full size roof rack & accessories, Shrockrock front bumper, tires, Ladder.... waiting on a purchase of UCAs & torsion bars...
The BL kit is been installed as we speak... And I removed those god dawn step things... The mud flaps removed themselves the 1rst time I took the truck in the woods... hahahah never found them... hahahha ... the rest should all be on the truck within a week or so.... I can't wait to go back out in the trailzzzzzz...
What did you do to your X?
Cool yeah the 33x12.50's won't fit with not mods lol.
Here's what I've done to mine:

Trailz 09-17-2009, 12:26 PM Wow!!!! your X is soooo nice!!!! Congrats!!!! I was looking to get a rear tube bumper like your front bumper... any suppliers you'd recommend?
My x will never be as nice cause I scraped it against trees and shit.... and I ain't getting it fixed... it's my F**ked up truck to go wheeling!!!
Thanks man! I have my share of Rocky Mountain Pinstriping. Trees are close on trails here so you get scratches. I haven't dented anything....yet. I'm sure I will at some point.
My front tube bumper was custom made - I'd recommend finding a good fab shop in your area that would do it. If you were in CO I'd know right where to send you. I don't think there are any aftermarket tube bumpers for the X. Actually - talk to Richard he is in VA I think? I don't remember his username here but others do I'm sure so post up or search - he'll make ya one I bet.

....gee... how to answer that.... I have been off work since 1s of feb.... was bitten by a poison spider in Algeria ... could go back to work since 1rs of July but the only contract they have to offer me is going back there.... as good as the money is... I told them NO - F*CK NO! :usuck: so they put me on the bench until new contracts come up....Now I get to spend my savings (& the insurance settlement for my 2 stolen ATVs)!
