: Seat Mod
zuiden 09-16-2009, 05:46 AM I will start by saying that I am 6'4" and my X is comfortable for me. I have plenty of leg room (with my seat all the way back) the only thing I have a problem with is seeing out the windshield specifically at traffic lights.
So I was wondering if there was a way to crank down my seat say 1 or 2 inches at most.
Drake 09-16-2009, 06:20 AM Interesting idea. Never thought of that but not sure if it's a possible. I find myself stopping a little further back from the light than I normally would in another car/truck so I don't have to lean forward to look up at the light.
Maybe someone else can shed some light on that.

Even stopping further back I find myself leaning forward and controting my neck slightly.
TimRich 09-16-2009, 08:04 AM Maybe you should lift the X up higher so your closer to the light...lol
I don't know that you'd have much room to work with under the seat. There is only about and inch or two at the most to work with. Have you looked into an aftermarket racing type seat? They don't seem to have as much padding and may sit a bit lower than the stocker... Just a thought.

Yeah I'm only 5'11" so I would imagine you'd have to stop 2 or 3 car lengths back. hahaha
tameroflions 09-16-2009, 08:15 AM the way the seat is bolted in, i really dont think theres a way you could modify the bracketing, so i think your best bet, like tim stated, would be racing seats, less cushioing and you sit lower in the seat. that in addition to lifting it...seems like that'd help a good bit...maybe SAS it w/ a few feet of lift so youre lookng straight out at eye level w/ the light. just an idea :)

Now your talking Daniel!!!
zuiden 09-16-2009, 09:09 AM Lifting is in the books in the next couple of months. PML and body lift. SAS is years down the road though. I need new tires first. So before I get new tires (265/75/16) I need the lift and to upgrade the steering and thats only going to get me a couple inches...
and the X's seat as wonderful as they are thin on cushioning as it is...and those racing seats tend to be smaller I guess. I am 6'4" 260 so a smaller seat isn't going to help me.
in other words. I am going to have a sore neck.
TRex00 09-16-2009, 10:38 AM the seats not going to be moved. I'd say lift the front and lower the back. give your truck the reversed muscle car look.
J Everett 09-16-2009, 12:14 PM Instead of a racing seat, look into a suspension seat. They're much, much easier on your spine when off roading, and I'm sure you sit a little lower than stock. Try Mastercraft (http://www.mastercraftseats.com/seats.php).
ALifeLessHorizontal 09-21-2009, 11:26 PM Just put a mirror on your dashboard facing up :)
Silver Dude 09-22-2009, 12:50 AM Be glad you don't drive a FJ lol
Most of the tall guys mods to seats on Xterra's I've seen involve lifting the front of the seat up with a small stack of washers. That way the seat can better support your thighs. If you have a welder and cutting tool you can make it anyway you want. I don't see any issue with lowering the seat as there is 1-2" of clearance under there. Might not be a bad idea to move the seat further back as well.
I'm 6.3 with long arms and sit with the adjuster all the way back and the seat back laid back a tick into ghetto style. At times I've considered modifying the seat brackets. But, I have my amplifier under there with tight clearance. I also didn't want to effect the performance of the air bag or safety of the seat belts or whatever. But, at times on long drives I just can't find a place for my left arm as the arm rest is to low and the window sill to high.

The washers trick may do it. I just can't stand riding leaned back. I like to sit upright so I feel more in control.
XJ98jeep 09-23-2009, 05:50 PM Not sure what your stance is on racing seats but as far as I can tell, http://www.corbeau.com/products/reclining_seats/sportseat/
is nearly the same as our seat, but thinner and comfier. I've sat in all of the Corbeaus, they're ALLLLL comfortable. I took a nap in my buddy's Baja Ultra the other day.
