: First Oil Change
WoodyTX 01-03-2007, 11:18 AM When did you get your first oil change? IIRC, Nissan recommends to run the usual 5000 miles (or was it 3000?).
I'm thinking at 500 miles or so, which is where I'm just over...
Muzikman 01-04-2007, 01:29 AM I did mine at 1500. I would have done it sooner if I could do it over. The oil was black as can be.
Nissan suggests every 3700 (or some odd, not round number). After 15K, I switched to Mobile 1 Synthetic and change it every 5K and use the stock OEM filter.
After the next change in 2K I'll be sending the oil off for analysis.
Oh, and don't forget to change the cush washer on the drain plug after each change. www.yournissanparts.com has them for something like $.50 each.
Anthony 01-04-2007, 07:33 AM I'll be sending the oil off for analysis.
Do tell us more! :)

saXgirl 02-03-2007, 01:42 PM What is the purpose of sending your oil out for analysis?
fatkid_UH-60 02-03-2007, 06:23 PM sending the oil for analysis helps identify any problems (internally) before they actually become a problem. for example, things such as high amounts of metallics in the oil (that aren't visible to the naked eye), or contaminants (water, dirt, etc.) are gonna red flag it. an excellent preventive maintenance idea. but I've honestly never thought about it for a truck. for aircraft it's part of scheduled maintenance.
json3904 02-03-2007, 08:15 PM i think i might just do that when i chang the oil, how long dose it take for the results to come back????????
Kona Hawaii 02-04-2007, 02:28 AM Hello, I didn't realize you had to change the drain oil plug washer everytime you change oil? Strange it was design this way...considering how often the oil has to be replace/change?
As far as for testing the oil? Very rare to have a bad engine!
New engines needs to be broken in! synthectic oils unless design for new engines (see mobil oil made for new engines)...will not break in your engine motor. Please check to make sure you have the right mobil oil?
Today Mobil oils are made to last for only 7000 miles each time for oil replacement. (there are some made up to 15,000 miles before each oil change).
Costco has the 7000 miles one here in KONA,Hawaii.
I just did an oil change 4000 miles ago, was going to change it tommorrow morning (before super bowl). Oh well....gotta order the oil drain washers first...........maybe if I win ( small gambler here)....I will be able to get a Toyota 4 Runner (hot wheels)............Aloha
json3904 02-04-2007, 02:37 AM check this out, i talked with my dad and he told me on my next oil change to switch to amsol oil, he said that i would drop my temp 20-30 deg less than with any other oil. said they put it in there chevy 454 and it runs smother, just like all the atv's and bikes
Kona Hawaii 02-08-2007, 03:50 PM Hello, Stop at the Nissan dealer today. A friend that works there ask the mechanic's how often to change the cush washers? Only if it is crack and doesn't stop the leaks. (NOT on every oil change). I brought 10 of the cush washers today (for future use).
They also said the Chysler Cross fire (mecedes engine) to change the oil ,the parts are about $150.00 not including a special oil )0W-40w oil. Average price for an oil change is $250.00 on the Cross fires at the dealers!
It cost me $11.35 for 10 cush washers.............Aloha
Anthony 02-08-2007, 04:19 PM I have to be honest, I don't change my crush washer every time ... but technically it is "one time use"
Muzikman 02-08-2007, 04:27 PM I buy all my OEM filters from www.yournissanparts.com and they tape a crush washer to the top of each filter. I change my washer after ever oil change and change the entire fill plug after every 5. I do that just to make sure the threads are still in good shape.
As for oil analysis. They can tell a lot of info about the engine. The one thing I am curious about is the longevity of the oil (ie. how much life is left in the oil when I am changing it (every 5K) or should I be changing it more frequently).
Anthony 02-08-2007, 05:17 PM Why do they list two filters, one $5.75 and one $6.00 ?
fatkid_UH-60 03-03-2007, 09:52 PM ok i did my first oil change today. used valvoline full synthetic 5w-30, with a K&N filter. here's a couple of things i noticed... 1) the drain plug had a copper crush washer... never seen that before, and it was a pain in the ass. replaced with the standard plastic. 2) having to take of the skid plate is kind of a pain. for the filter.
mozeltov homies
json3904 03-03-2007, 10:52 PM now they make a filter relocate kit, just i dont know how good it works..... but the skid isnt really hard to remov, when i installed the sterring stabilizer i took it off.... not hard...
hawaiian 03-31-2007, 02:00 AM I hope the dealer doesn't gauge me for oil changes because I can't do it myself since I live in an apartment... What synthetic oil does the Nissan dealer use???? And how much $$$
arterra 04-04-2007, 10:57 PM over here in Canada, the stealerships use Mobil 1. They charge an arm and a leg as well. There's some issues regarding Mobil 1 full synths not actually being Grade iv synthetics. But i guess if you cant do them yourself, the dealership is still better than getting it done a jiffy lube
json3904 04-04-2007, 11:03 PM as far as i know the only oil that is a iv synthetic is redline and it is high dollar.........
Muzikman 04-05-2007, 09:42 AM Amsoil is too.
To be honest, that means very little though.
Just addressing a misconception...Mobil 1 was rated as a 25K oil when it first came out..the down grade to 7K wasn't because the oil was worse really, it was because no one made a filter that could last that long.
All of the off the shelf oil filters are limited to a best of about 7,500 miles, and that's for the Mobil1 filter, and the Purolater PureOne oil filter...the rest, last less than that...some go to bypass almost as soon as you install them....so the oil is unfiltered after that...just bypasses the filter media.
:D
S_e_X-Terra 04-05-2007, 01:44 PM as far as i know the only oil that is a iv synthetic is redline and it is high dollar.........
Amsoil is a full (and pure) synthetic oil.... Its a grade IV motor oil (or is it grade V??)... whichever is the highets grade, thats what amsoil is.
Dont know about redline but im sure you are right on that.
json3904 04-05-2007, 06:06 PM well my father has a motorcycle shop in amarillo and he sales amsol and i thought he said it was grade 4. on my previous thread i was worng redline is the only one that is grade 5 i think..... but i will call just to make sure..... thanks for the correction sexy
