I took my K&N out for a cleaning to find the following damage. Maybe I didn't get it set correctly when I installed it. Would you reuse it? I'm thinking I should cut my losses and just go get a new one. I don't want to cause any future damage to my engine. What do you all think?

The links don't even work? Wonder what is wrong with my account. I can see the pics in my first post and the links in my last one work just fine for me. In two different browsers. Maybe its a server-side issue. Can you copy and paste these and see then?

I would replace it with an actual K&N filter. Where'd you get that one? You sure it's K&N? It doens't look like it has any oil on it, nor the proper type to oil..... very odd.

This is what a K&N looks like:

I'm almost positive I got the K&N. Maybe I just killed that brain cell. Well forget messing with it any longer, I'm just going to go get a new one. Thanks y'all.

Yeah, I took the loss and went and got a new one. I think I either spaced out or got jacked by the store. Oh well, no damage and its running good now. Thanks for the heads-up gentlemen. Much appreciated.

Chuckster, it's possible some shuyster switched a Purolator with a K&N at the store to get the pricier filter at a lower price. This is why I open every box and verify the contents before I purchase.

As Odin and others pointed out, the filter media features cotton gauze in a metal mesh impregnated with a tacky red oil ... not dry paper pleats.

As for that filter, if I got into a bind and HAD to use it, I'd add a little RTV silicone to those gaps and then install. Leave to set up a few hours before turning over the engine.

The last time I bought a K & N, I bought a purolator, brought it back, and then bought a K & N. Someone did switch the box, and now I check every time.

Looks like Fram's signature. I just bought one. Lol. How the heck did you chew that off?! Lol!! It's still good just kinda dirty. you should have seen my last two (In the past 3 months) they turned PITCH BLACK! Anyway, reason I brought up this old thread is because I freaking spent over $20 on the damn filter @ Autozone when for not even $15 extra, could have gotten the K&N piece @ PepBoys since they're $10 bucks off right now. Give it a few more weeks and I'll have to buy it anyway, lol.
