Muzikman 01-02-2007, 07:36 PM I have a tablet PC mounted with a Ram Mount and a USB GPS puck mounted on the dash (cable routed behind the dash). It give me a full computer with Navigation and with my Cell phone, i-net access.
I am sure tha tis not what you are looking for. :)
I would look into the Garmin units.

PsychoX 01-04-2007, 12:24 AM Yeah I would definetly recommend Garmin Nuvi350 or widescreen version Nuvi660. Its very good (350 i got) and very accurate. As far as in-dash units I don't recommend any of them due to high price and form(they do look nice in dash) over funcionality. I have Avic z1(dvd only when you stop,20 GB HDD for music) but I'm not amazed by it. My Nuvi kiks its a$$.
Muzikman 01-04-2007, 01:36 AM I guess the other question to ask. Will you use it for anything other than Street Navigation? Ie, hiking, geocaching, etc.?
If so, I would look at one of the iQue's or if voice navigation isn't needed, I would look at the GPS Map60 lines (I have the 60CSx and love it).
I have and have used quite a few different GPS's (mostly hand helds) and find the Garmins to be much nicer and usually more user friendly.
json3904 01-04-2007, 01:44 PM i just use my nextel i930 for navigation, it has a program called telenav
unclehardrock 01-07-2007, 02:09 PM so after some research and a little bit of shopping around i actually wound up going with a tomtom one unit. it was the best unit for the amount of money i was looking to spend, and had a 100 dollar instant rebate at bestbuy. the unit is the perfect size, and works great. i spent a few hours in the garage today taking the entire dash apart so i could route the power cable behind it and make the install a lot cleaner. after a lot of busted knuckles and a little bit of dremmel work, it came out pretty nice. i also modified a few old cell phone holders i had from previous cars for my phone, allowing it to sit right under my headunit so i won't miss a call coming in. i have an lg vx9800, which flips open and has a full keyboard, so i made the holder so the phone could be used in it's normal upright position, or sideways giving me access to the web while driving. there's a few pics below of how it all turned out.

BurnMac42 01-18-2007, 09:17 PM pscy you do realize that you can turn the gyro off on your in dash dvd with a switch on the back.....also if they had you hook the wire up to the e brake just ground it and voila you get dvd while driving :) oh and i just purchased the nuvi 360 :) everything the 350 has plus blue tooth
PsychoX 04-26-2007, 11:21 PM BurnMac,
How is nuvi? I just visited L.A and had my 350 with. That thing is great.
I'm going to turn off the gyroin my avic like u said when i get chance to take some time off and take it out. All those safety things start piss me off.
BurnMac42 04-27-2007, 08:21 AM psycox you can simply bypass that feature so you can have dvd while it is being driven...
json3904 04-28-2007, 05:29 PM yes all you have to do is unhook it from the e-brake and wire in a switch that you will ground to the body or anything that is grounded, sometimes you might have to toggle the switch a couple of times but it will work.... good luck
fatkid_UH-60 04-30-2007, 11:29 AM even though it's more cumbersome, i use Delorme Street atlas on my laptop, and sit it in the seat next to me. i like the ability to really customize my route.
json3904 04-30-2007, 03:55 PM yeah the inly bad thing about that is it wont tell you where you are... when i go on trips that i havent drove before i use my gps on my nextel phone its real good for $10 a month......
fatkid_UH-60 04-30-2007, 03:59 PM oh yes it does.... comes with a USB GPS.
json3904 05-01-2007, 02:36 PM now that is sweet, how much for the set up????
fatkid_UH-60 05-02-2007, 09:19 AM progrem is under a hundred, GPS antenna comes with it. DeLorme Street Atlas.
Muzikman 05-02-2007, 09:43 AM I also have Street Atlas and have used it for years. I recently picked up a product called I-Guidance. It is basically the same system that the onboard nav systems use. For street navigation, it is great. I use it a lot more than Street Atlas now.
json3904 05-02-2007, 03:10 PM i will check it out.....
