A few days ago my wife and I were at the Waseca wallmart supercenter. As she was doing her thing, I was browsing throught the magazine section, and flipping through the magazine "4-Wheeler" to be exact. It had an article on seven off-road suv's, several from gm and jeep, a Hummer, and a mix of others including that new monster from toyota. Some of them weren't even for off-roading at all, and where given bad marks when they didn't perform well in that situation. They didn't test the Xterra at all, or any Nissan for that matter. I may be still new to the X, but I firmly believe that it could out perform most of the vehicles in that article, including that goofy looking thing from toyota.

If it helps, most "batch tests" involve only those vehicles with new models or substantial redesigns in that year.

Yep, both major 4x4 magazines that did a 4wheeler of the year type of comparo, required it to be a new vehicle, a "from the ground up" renovation of a model, or significant changes in suspension/drivetrain.

No changes in the xterra from 06-07, so its not in the running.
