: Shrocked
Anthony 12-20-2006, 11:21 AM My Shrockworks front bumper arrived today. :D
They do a great job of packaging to protect it from any damage in shipment. No less than THREE layers of packing.
But DAyum this thing is effin HUGE!

It is the 2" BL version, but as you can see in the following pics, the gap is actually just a bit over 1" As opposed to the 1/2"-3/4" most have.

Mounted it myself today, its acually pretty easy. I didn't put the winch in for a couple of reasons.
1. I would definitely need help.
2. I don't want to run it on the stock battery.
3. I honestly couldn't figure out how to mount it and still be able to access the clutch lever and find a place for the solenoid.
I will need help when it comes time for the winch, no doubt.
burnout 12-20-2006, 12:39 PM thats a sweet bumper dude.
WoodyTX 12-20-2006, 02:07 PM I've got one coming... every time I see a thread like this I feel like it's Christmas or something.
(Yeah, I know, it's Dec 20th, but you know what I mean...)

Anthony 12-21-2006, 07:06 AM Nah, if mine breaks I drive my work truck :D
Muzikman 12-21-2006, 11:16 AM Looks good.
Yeah, putting the bumper on with a winch is a 2 person job.
I wouldn't worry about running a winch with the stock battery unless it's old and on it's last leg already.
If it's a remote solenoid you mount the box on top of the bumper in the center (on the 2nd gen bumpers it comes with a bracket). As for the clutch, you mount the winch feet first and access the handle by reaching through the square hole on the underside of the bumper.
Cool.
:D
To make it work best (Winch mount), get the remote extension that goes into the winch solinoid, and runs to the top of the bumper....it makes hooking up the remote control a snap when needed.
:D
I mounted the Warn 9.5 xp (remote solinoid winch) with the solinoid bolted to the inside of the bumper, next to the battery (P side), so the electric would reach....then ran the extension to the Drivers side top of the bumper, from the solinoid.
I mounted the winch feet first (Leaning back at the radiator), well out of harm's way, with the clutch lever facing down - for quick access (Just reach under the bumper, and its right there)....some people use the rectangular cut outs in the bumper to reach it...I find reaching under the bumper easier.
In the old days, we mounted the winches right on top of the bumpers....as its all right there in front of you for easy access, etc...but they get stolen from there too often, for the exact same reason....so the hidden mount is way safer...and it protects the line from UV rays more too. :D
I went with the MasterPull synthetic line, and am Aluminum fairlead, as it saved about 45 lb off the front end, and, got me 125' of 19,600 lb line, instead of 9,500 lb steel wire rope.
:D
Anthony 12-21-2006, 05:15 PM Ok, I couldn't wait anymore... I put my winch in this afternoon. And I did it all by myself.
I didn't even have to take the bumper off, and the solenoid is mounted in its intended location.
It would have probably been a very interesting site to watch the way I got the winch up in there though. haha.
Both Rube Goldberg and OSHA would be proud. :)
This the view from under the truck looking forward up into the bumper, for anyone wondering how a 12k Milemarker fits in a Shrock bumper. You can see the front skid at the top of the pic and the fairlead at the bottom of the pic. The solenoid is on the right side, and I can reach the clutch lever by reaching up behind the bumper on the left as TJ also states he does. :

And here is the finished product:

I don't know if there is remote extension for the Milemarker winch, but they do offer a wireless remote option...
I also got the Shrockworks aluminum hawse fairlead for when I switch over to the Masterpull synth line. Just need to save up the $$ for the line, as I just ordered my new battery to the tune of $140.
pavementsucks 12-23-2006, 03:57 PM how much heavier is the shrock than stock? I'd imagine it adds a lot of rolling mass to the vehicle.
Any impact on MPG, ride quality, nose diving during heavy breaking?
