burnout 12-15-2006, 02:06 PM Might be getting an Xterra this weekend, been reading around here a bit. Want an offroad or an SE, and the offroads are definitely rare at the 10 dealerships cloest to me. With the incentives on 2006, I hope to pick up a 06 for good savings.
Anthony 12-15-2006, 04:35 PM Welcome !!
Definitely try to get OR edition if you plan on taking it offroad, it makes a big difference.
burnout 12-15-2006, 04:37 PM well, im ashamed to say i prob wont.. i know truck owners hate that stuff.. but we dont go on too many trips. but i like the fogs on the offorad, and one im looking at comes with the fosgate system. I have been building systems for 15 years, and know this isnt close to a great system. but, i stopped caring about stereo upgrades on my last car, so i figure i want whatever the best stock can provide is.
burnout 12-15-2006, 09:54 PM i have a sweet deal lined up for tomorrow.
2006 Xterra SE 4x4 A/T (silver)
all the small options, nothing major.
$24879 + sales tax
I worked on email negotation for 5 hours straight.
first he offered me this:
$26,988
Then, since i didnt really want silver, he blew it down to this:
$26,379
Then, he offered the $1500 rebates off that low price = $24879
BUT, If I want crazy 4% financing, then i cant take the $1000 rebate. So it would be $25879 if I wanted 4% financing, 60 months.
I think the first deal i mentioned is better.
Anthony 12-16-2006, 06:59 AM You may find that negotiating in person works much better. (and faster too).
burnout 12-16-2006, 07:05 AM I found way opposite in my last 3 new cars before this. I'd much rather sit in my own house stressed than sit in his office. This guy barely negotiated, he just went straight to rock bottom. I had come to him at invoice to begin with (-$1000 after that). Then he kept going lower still. I have always traded in my new cars, and took a 2-3k rollover into my new loan. But this time, I did a private sale, so im not underwater. The price is now set and im happy with it. So I just walk in today at noon, and we start the paperwork. (After i look at the car i guess, but dont need to drive it, already know how they drive.)
Forgot, the only thing pending is what financing they give me for a 60 or 72 month loan. If they cant give me 4.9% on my excellent credit, I might have to walk out. I want lower payments than my GTI, so im taking a long loan.
So stoked to have it in my driveway. I've always garaged our cars (2006 GTI and 2006 Wrangler sport). Sucks that the Xterra is 74.9" tall cuz i can't garage it anymore. But, thats why im getting a truck. So I can stop being so anal about my car.
WoodyTX 12-16-2006, 07:33 AM Just about everyone I know who has purchased a car through an online salesman has gotten a better deal than through a "walk in". One friend said that the online guy sells 5-10x as many cars, and can take a slimmer margin. Another thought is that online buyers can very easily go elsewhere without being "rude".
FWIW, I bought one of the Consumer Reports "new car report" before going into final negotiations. The difference between "Sticker" and "Bottom Line" prices on a 2007 Xterra Off Road isn't that high, something like $2200. In other words, there's not much room for negotiations (in comparison with a Chebby, for instance, where markup can be over $8000).

thanks for the input. Thats why i think i got a good deal, at least 4k off sticker. I'll find out exactly how much when i see the sticker in person. But mine is an SE, not Offroad. The yellow offroad i wanted got snatched up just last night. I lost it by 24 hours.
Anthony 12-16-2006, 07:37 AM I guess I shouldn't talk, because I negotiated online for my first xterra. But it was used and listed on ebay. I got him to end the auction and take my price before anyone else bid on it :)
I still prefer to negotiate in person though. ;)
burnout 12-16-2006, 07:39 AM APR question.
He has his car offer, 26379 before rebates.
1. He can do $1500 rebate, but i dont get the incentive 4% financing.
OR
2. He can do $500 rebate, then i do get 4% APR for 60 month.
I have compared the two in a lot of scenarios and there sint much difference, at a estimate worse rate of 5.9%. I might go 72 month for sweet payments, I want to keep a lot of cash in my pocket today.
Anthony 12-16-2006, 07:46 AM APR question.

I will always advocate for a lower rate. Paying interest is like tossing 20's out the window, if you ask me.
Go for deal #2
burnout 12-16-2006, 07:49 AM i couldn't believe a tiny 1% difference in interest would equal more than $1000 in savings.
but when i look at the 72 month plan, 5.9% vs 4%, the 4% wins with $3 less a month.
but... if i get 4.9% offer at 72 months.. vs 4%
then the 4.9% wins, and saves me $8/month.
guess it depends what he offers after my credit check.
burnout 12-16-2006, 08:56 AM Just for FYI showing how an APR affects payment:
(With $4500 down example)
60 month loan
26931 @ 5.9% = $433/month
26931 @ 4.9% = $422/month ----> winner if i get 4.9% or better
28014 @ 4.0% = $433/month
72 month loan
26931 @ 5.9% = $389/month
26931 @ 4.9% = $378/month
28014 @ 4.0% = $368/month ---> winner
burnout 12-16-2006, 02:04 PM Just signed on it. Serramonte Nissan gave me a amazing price.
I was in and out of the dealership in under 30 mins total.
Anthony 12-16-2006, 03:46 PM Sounds good! When do you get to take it home and show us the pics?
burnout 12-16-2006, 04:32 PM i took it home. its in my garage. not too much room to take pics. When its sunny outside i might do a pic session.
bought it with 10 miles..
Ps, my credit score was 805. So i qualified in top class. But, STILL they could only do 6.87% unless i took the incentive APR for 60 month only.
so i took the 4% for 60 month..
28014 (including tax) @ 4.0% = $433/month
