Question ....my emergency brake light just came on out of the blue and I have the break OFF!! It now stays on all the time.

Any thoughts?

You may have a stuck switch, or your brake might actually be stuck, etc etc.

Park on level ground, brakes on, parking brake on, put it in Drive, release brakes (leave parking brake on), truck should not move. Brakes back on, release parking brake, release brakes, truck should move.

If the truck moves with the parking brake engaged, then you need to have that fixed anyway, so have them check the light at that time.

I wasn't sure what type of mechanism the E break actually had to switch that light on.

I believe in a 2000 Xterra you have an ebrake handle in the center console, correct? If so, the switch should be at the base of that handle inside the center console. You could open it up and check that.

Later models have a foot-operated e-brake.

Or is it a pull-handle on the dash? I can't remember. sorry.

Either way, the switch will be part of the handle mechanism.

After reading the manual (yes, pulled it out) it may also be low break fluid. I will check that as well.

Yup, I just read that also! (wish I would have come up with that on my own haha.)
