A Symbol for Responsible Motorized Recreationists

Stacie and I are tired of seeing turtles on the back windows of cars and trucks. The turtle represents (in many cases) the anti‐access attitude and philosophy. We’re sure you’ve seen them (they’re everywhere). We feel it’s time for us, motorheads, to have a symbol – a symbol for access for all, for motors in the backcountry, for responsible access. We’re starting an initiative to find that symbol. We want your help.

The turtle's shell resembled a dome and was seen as a symbol of the dome of heaven ‐hence heavenly virtue. Generally the turtle is seen to represent: self‐containment, creative source, earthiness, being grounded, longevity, protection, shelter, and a steady approach to life. For us, it means closures and restrictions from what we've seen.

So we feel we need a symbol (that can live right along your favorite organization stickers) that the world will begin to recognize as responsible recreation – access for all.

We may not agree on what organizations to belong to. We may not agree on what lawsuits to file or not file. We may not agree on who’s on first or who’s in charge. But can’t we agree on one symbol that says: Responsible Access; Access for All; Motors in the Backcountry; Freedom to travel and recreate; No More Gates; etc.

This will be organization indifferent and all encompassing. This will not be a particular rig or type of vehicle. This could be an animal that we PROMOTE as representing us. This could be about anything that we can all stand behind as OUR symbol of OUR access and freedom.

So in order to develop this idea, we want your help. We hope you will jump in with your best thoughts, even those of you with Mohawks, cold ones in hand, pool parties, and other priorities. This is for all of us. Bring some smack down, help develop this into something we can all use, share and be proud of – oh, and if it also happens to unite us to some extent, then all the better.

That's so funny, I was just working on this the other day. I though the same thing. You guys need something to say we are the few responsible people out there that don't trash stuff, so don't bother us, lol. (join us)

I was just working on some logo ideas a few days ago, lol. I was going to surprise you guys with the idea.

Oh well, the cats out of the bag now, lol.

not really cause we havent seen the design... but when you get it done let me know and i will pass it on to dale and see if they want to roll with it...

i get there news letter every other day or so and i try to post them up on here...

i like that idea...it says Preserve and Protect while off-roading...so you're "image" would be a turtle shell with like off road tires for legs or something?

I have seen the turtles...but I don't get it. What company/group is it for? Who started it? Or is it just a turtle sticker?

Exactly and maybe have some logos on his back like Tread Lightly and Blueribbon coalition or maybe even a phrase like "Use don't abuse".

the tread lightly would look great on its back...in like bubble letters to kinda look like the spots on the shell or like woven into the spots of the shell...i would put those on my x...but i still would like to see what Creepy came up with

The quickest way to start a war, is to modify the other guys logo to represent what they are trying to stop. You might want to rethink that idea, unless you want a war, lol. (I don't think anybody here wants that)

The other thing is, you can't really put things like tread lightly and such on it, without permision from them, and it will never really be your own thing if you do.

A new catch phrase is a good idea though.

Just some things to think about.

Get a down to earth feeling go four wheeling.

'get your truck dirty, keep your trails clean'

'your' can be substituted for 'our', 'truck' can be plural


'dirty trucks, clean trails'

"Protecting the land by respecting the land"

"Trash your rig not the trail"

"I respect my trail so respect my tread"



or we could go with more extreme measures:

"Let me wheel and I let you live" hahahaha


As for what to use as a symbol, I think it should encompass two things; versatility and endangered. Because that is what we are afterall. Our vehicles are/can be the most versatile vehicles around and it should be an endangered creature or something representing being endangered because well... that's what we are becoming. There are several types of lizards and reptiles that are endangered that I think would make a good symbol. But this is just my .02 on the subject.

I had a different kind of concept on the whole thing actually, so I'm going to hold off and see how you guys think for a bit first, lol. Try to keep the slogan short and clever, the less letters the better so it can be bigger, too many words and they will have to be too little to read.

how about "respect and protect". short and simple.
