Well I plan on being @ Rausch next week, maybe for VA4x4 Fall Event, if not then end of Sept of a trail maint., then again in Dec. w/ you Fawkers...

if we get a big enough group Mike...we will split up and those of us who want to hit the harder trails and then the others can hit the greens & blue trails.

Im in... Mike just remember the the last time we went in the spring and how bad it was with the snow melting. Even greens and blues become nasty when snow and ice is involved.

BTW - in the Poconos, winter wheeling can raise the colors one or two skill levels...like a Green may turn Blue or even Black....Blues can turn Black or Red, and so forth.

A simple off camber incline, a green passage in summer, etc... when coated with a sheet of ice, can be unclimbable w/o sliding sideways, etc.

A normally mild rock garden, when the rocks are coated with a hard ice shell, becomes a greased wheel chock garden instead, etc.

So - if you intended on running blacks and its icy...you might find you need to down-color a bit.

:D

Of course, in December, lately, it might be sunny and 70º as well.

:D

Yeah Rc could get bad depending on the weather. This past year everything just had ice where water was. No snow had really fallen but it was COLD.

hence why we should call it the "Annual ClubX Freeze Your Ass Off Winter Run"

Hope you have a bag good for negative temps. I think it was zero in the morning last december. wind chill had to be like -10 up in the comp area. down in the west property its warmer though. that valley doesn't get alot of wind.

Well, if you camp at the lower elevation, it was TWICE AS WARM as the higher elevations.

I watched the thermometer - at the top, it was a rather chilly -4º F, but, down at the relatively balmy bottom, it was twice as warm, at -2º F.

:kalt-big:

If you use a very small tent, you stay a lot warmer in that kind of weather, and, as most people fall asleep as they freeze to death, often, you can get a much fuller night's rest.

I think I'll pass on camping though, as if too many of us camp, the others are later sort of stuck chipping the bodies out, and the more frozen bodies, the less time for wheeling.

As Mike's small, and the only camper, at least we lose a bit less wheeling time.

:D
