I was wondering if anyone has noticed engine clatter in the engine bay at or around the 2K - 2.5K RPM range? I can't tell if it's internal or not. It also occurs at idle. If anyone could fill me in it would be great.

There is several things this could be.1 it might be a valve tap,2 it might be a rod knock. The best thing to do is change your oil and inspect the old oil for metal. Some times as engines rack up miles on them the tolerences are not as tight causing a little bit of noise. I hope this helps a little.:wink-big:

Is it a metallic sound? Ticking? Rattle?
Happen when engine is hot? Cold? Both?
Can you hear where in the engine bay it's coming from?

yes this is old. I don't think my rattle is the same. Mine happens if the cars isn't warmed up it it makes a rattle when it shifts up (its an automatic.) Anyone know what it is?

Check all the heatshields. They are known for making all sorts of noises.

You might want to have a mechanic listen with his scope to narrow down the noise. Most won't charge you to take a listen.
