I love it.

:D

I have a few questions, as its (As all rigs are) a work in progress, and I'm curious as to the rest of your plans.

Your rear shackles are way out there...are you planning a shackle plate or guard to help fend off rocks on departure off ledges/backing up, etc?

You have a ton of steel protecting the bed...but I can't tell what IN the bed you are protecting yet...must be something cool coming. :D

..But, I do not see a roll hoop, or other roll over type protection added for the cab area yet...which seems a natural next step either way...as you already have a massive structure up against the back of the cab.

You're doing an amazing job...and I can't wait to see where you end up.

:wink-big:

penski61
09-05-2010, 08:46 PM
the shackles are 1/2" thick so they will take a beating without really getting damaged
the bed isnt really protecting anything in the bed , its main purpose was so i could get thru tight obstacles with little to no damage and they will double as a slider

the reason i didnt do a hoop was because i made a compromise with the wife it was either go with another oem bed or this bed , i went with this bed ;)

Kenny(theking) will be helping me put together(3 link up front 4 link in the back) the truck but i went ahead and started prepping so when it comes time im hoping we can get it knocked out in 2 day maybe even one
started by taking out the front shock hoops and shocks cut off the tabs and such
then made a new crossmember for the transmission
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z219/penski61/P6198944.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z219/penski61/P6198945.jpg
got a good chunk of work done today
cut out a stock crossmember in the back and added some cross braces to crossmembers i had already installed on the truck
got the shock towers mocked up then added a truss? to them and made it removeable so i can take the bed off if needed
need to fix the hole in the bed on the drivers side but other than that i think it came out good

well here is one pic from this weekend , my wife is cleaning up the other ones
checking clearance and what needs to be changed , everything worked pretty much flawlessly
only changes are charge the coilovers to 200lbs since we only had a pre-set regulator , move the coilovers up about 2" in the back and adjust the rear uppers one hole up

the 3link and 4link fab work is all Kenny (theking) he defiantly does awesome work but ill take credit for everything else :)

also i moved the lower coilover mount up since i couldnt utilize all the up travel , now ill be able to stuff the tire perfectly(i hope) and also have more down travel lol
i may have to run limit straps though cause im not sure if the driveshaft will bind up with that kinda droop

Nice to see you on CX as well.

penski61
09-23-2011, 07:31 AM
well the rear coilovers were too far inboard causing the rear to flex all the way out without doin much which was causing issues with the front not flexing at all so there are (2) 16" pieces of frame sitting on the ground now ;)

zachbiz
09-23-2011, 12:09 PM
so does this mean you are going to have to modify the frame to get the angle you want?

penski61
09-23-2011, 08:06 PM
haha yeah thats why there is 16" of frame sitting on the ground ;)

ill try and get some pics tomorrow but basically used 2 pieces of 3x4 (couldnt find any 2x4) and capped the frame where i cut those pieces out then joined those 2 pieces together with (2) 10" pieces that are about 6-1/2" further in that where the frame used to be

Is it just the pic/angle, or is there some work needed still to allow full rear drive shaft travel?

with a roll cage goin in the seats i had in the truck sat a little to high
here is one of the new seats with custom seat mounts i made up which lowered the seats about an 1-1/2"
