I have a 2004 Xterra. I am looking to replace the tires with bigger ones. The stock tires are 265 70 R 16. How big can I go with out lifting truck. Thanks for any info you can give me

Depends how much trimming you want to do.

Anything larger than 265/75 r16 will require either mucho trimming or a lift.

Given the type of vehicle the xterra is, it is a little ridiculous how little room for tires there is.....I went from a 265/65 17 to a 265/70 and it rubs in reverse

265/70 r17 is the same size as 265/75 r16 (by the way) :)

Also depends on what larger means...if for street, and not off road work...wider, not taller, is the way to go.

When the wife was driving the X, I put 275/70/16's on it...it really woke the truck up (255/65/16's were standard)...and all I had to trim was a little piece of plastic off of where the mud flap mounting ledge was to let the tire swing...and the '04's don't even need that I believe, as they have less plastic in the way.

So I'd look for a set of 275/70/16.

If planning on off roading.....then other options can be had, etc.
