Hey guys,
Just needing a little extra help choosing a new set of tires for my Xterra 2002 SE Supercharged. I am in Colorado/Vail, so my driving is 80% in the highway through the mountains / Winter snowy conditions 6 month a year and 20% offroad since i ride Dirtbikes a lot and to get to the good trail sometimes there is mod in between. I have read lots of threads on clubxterra regarding tires but some of them are old, and new technology is out the window.
I also have been surfing discount tires and onlinetires.com and realized the choices are limited specially when trying to find A/Ts like BFG, not sure if the size matters (265/65-17).
On my old Pathfinder I had Michelin LTX A/Ts and ended up great tires in the snow, a little pricey though. But of course my X is a lot different than my old '95 Pathfinder.
My thoughts are BFG or Michelin. I never tried anything different so any recommendation is more than welcome,
Thank you in advance for your help...
Zeek

PS: Last week i did my first X Mod, installed a Volant Cold Air intake... Love it!!

Run 265/70/17 tires...much more options and I didnt need to trim anything. Ive been looking at the nitto tera grapplers for my truck but havent pulled the trigger yet.

Where i live, is hard to find service if the tires aren't the size whithin the specs of the X.
How the 70 will perform in comparason with the 65? I assumed there is a very small difference, correct?
What's better on the Nitto Terra Grappler? I can see numerous models, have you lokked at one in particular?

I have the Goodyear Wrangler MTR on my X and its the best snow tire I have ever seen but they will be a bit noisier than the terra graplers. Although I have pulled trucks outta the ditch during the winter with the Terra Graplers and through a field when it started to thaw out. Im from the midwest though we only get a 3 months of snow but its alot all at once. Take it for what its worth just my oppinion.

Looks like a nice tire, more oriented towards the snow though for what i am looking for. Just wondering how it performs on the dry highway.
i am looking to an S or R rating.

Mine are fine on the highway and are wearing extremely well for how aggressive they are Im not sure about the rating though.

If I remember right our stock height is 30.6...the 265/70 would put you at 31.6...but still the same width. I didnt have any rubbing issues.

I like the look of the grapplers, very quiet on the road, and aggressive enough for just about everything I do, good luck!

General AT2 Grabbers.

Great on highways/wet weather (lots of siping), claw through snow and good on trails. They also come with stud mounts and the larger sizes carry the snowflake symbol for extreme winter conditions.

Wear well too, I have 30,000 km on mine and they look like new.

I like my Firestone Destination a/ts.. they're pretty quiet on the road and have done great in mud, snow, etc

Thank you for all your thoughts.
Still trying to decide.
I think i will buy them online, have them shipped to my office and have someone install them. I've been checking www.onlinetires.com looks like they have the best prices out there.
Just wondering if you guys heard from this online site.

I do not recommend those because those MFers are so hard to balance, and they do not stay balanced.
