Just signed up to get some information on x-terra's and their offroad capability. I'm currently deployed to Kuwait and might buy an x whe i get back stateside. I am a former Jeep Cherokee owner with pretty extensive offroad experience. I'm mainly looking for advice on which models are most capable offroad from the factory, what suspension products are available, gs mileage, how durable the IFS really is....the list will go on! Home is western Kentucky around the paducah area by the way. Nice forum by the way!

Welcome to CX!

Most capable offroad is definitely the Offroad model with the Elocker in the rear.

companies like PRG, Calmini, and Automotive Customizers all make suspension lifts for the second generation Xterra. Automotive Customizers even has body lifts.

The elocker came on the Off Road (OR) models from 2005 onwards.

:D

They closed Paragon, the bass turds (political crap...)...but, Rausch Creek Off Road Park opened, and has much the same terrain, about 30 minutes away, just fewer total trails than PAP did.but is a lot of fun at least.

Yeah fortunatley I made it to Paragon twice before they closed. It sucks because they were about 30 minutes from my house, but like TJ said Rausch is only about 30 minutes south of paragon so thats not a bad trip for me either. Its also a very nice park with awesome trails. Definitely worth the trip for anyone not local.

I have driven both a 2000 Xterra and a 1992 Jeep. The Jeep just loves going up hill...it is 100% stock, and she gets it. But what am i going to do...modify it...so it is the same thing everyone else drives? Kind of boring. My Nissan is so much more fun to drive. I do a lot of driving on the beach in dunes, river bars that are rock, and alot of logging roads/forest service roads. She does awesome! I have a 3 inch lift and 32x11.50's and my only complaint is that i have some bump steer. The Jeep is easier to wrench on, and the parts are out there for sure. But I get some looks in my X. The IFS...well, mine has held up well, but i do have some moog lower ball joints on my bench that i want to install some day. The best thing about the Jeep is that solid front axle, but they are like belly buttons every one has one!
