Ive heard about people just being able to look up and clear codes on their computer. I looked at scantool.net and I was wondering what people have and what they like? Where does the scan cord hook into? the usb?

There was a thread about it quite a while ago but I don't think the OP ever got around to doing it....but there's a easier way to do this is get a Scangauge II and it'll read the codes for you and clear them also too.

Ive seen the little scanguage tools for $80...I liked the idea of being able to read the trucks temp and be able to do the codes while driving.

the scangauge II does give temps....i have mine for these following: Water temp, volts, mph (adjusted for my 33's wi/o messing with speedo), and rpms.

It has more features than what i've listed but those are what is displaying on mine.

Ah I was thinking of something different. Ill take a look at the scanguage then thanks. Can you just leave it plugged in while driving then and be able to check everything?

Yes, I leave mine plugged in all the time and it turns on when I start up...only plugs into the OB-DII plug....no modifications needed.

Can also use it on other vehicles that have the plug if needed. Its simply plug-n-play.

the scanguageII is awsome.. i have had it for a few years and the only thing i need to do is unhook it and send it back for the update...

as to using the computer you can do it but you need to buy the software and the cables to do it...

Just for the record, Xterras don't have tranny temp...unless you make one for it which I think James (Soccerbrace) has done for his but it has just about what you would want to display tho....not 100% sure about oil pressure? Jason may confirm that.

I have a carputer setup with a touchscreen in the dash

and use the Scan Tool ODB software from Auto Enginuity (http://autoenginuity.com/). On the 2nd Gen Xterras there are 2 tranny temp sensors and this software lets me monitor them, along with a ton of other sensors. I don't have any screen shots of the ODB software, but can get some if there is interest.

That would be awesome. I'm going to run GPS and topos thru the tablet so running a odb with it make sense. It runs windows xp and it nice a small so it should work great

I've got it set up to monitor up to 6 sensors at a time. Under each of the display slots is a dropdown that let's you choose which sensor to monitor.

The Autoenginuity software will let you monitor both, but not necessarily at the same time, or at least I haven't figured out how to get both at the same time. The enhanced sofware works on a system basis. The tranny temps are under the automatic transmission system, whereas oil pressure is under drivetrain I believe.

Nice, Delorme Street Atlas eh?

Thanks. It's Topo USA from Delorme. I'm about to install the latest version. I really like having the live position on the Topo, especially when I can download the GPS coords for a trail beforehand.

Don't know if this will help/is what someone's looking for, but this is what i got. It's got every cable you would need. Best kit you can get for the money. I love it.

I know this thread is a little old but I am in the process of installing a carpc, and I am looking for the connection that goes between the X (2002) and the computer, where is the best place to get it? I know I need more than just the connector, what do I need if I download the programs?? I still need the chip right?
