Mahindra India's largest auto maker of SUVs is going to introduce a diesel powered pickups in the US early next year.
Take a look and let up know what you think.

Thats kinda cool. I know they make good tractors. My neighbor has one and its a workhorse and a lot cheaper than a JD or a Kubota.

I've seen ads for the tractors ... make you think they are just down-home folks makin' tractors solid the way they used to be made.

Truth is they are an Indian company.

Don't know how good/durable their stuff is. It'll be interesting to watch.

63hp! Look out world! Here comes Mahindra! No seriously, they're coming! They'll be here...any...day...now...

Seriously, I bet they're tough, simple little trucks. If you were hauling stuff all over India, you'd need a good, tough, reliable vehicle, and Mahindra is the number one domestic automaker in India. You see a lot of older Japanese 4x4's there too, like Samurais and Pajeros.

The Maxi Truck?

They don't understand the mostly male target market that pickups are geared towards I guess.

From what I have read the current build quality is pretty low, and they are pretty much a disposable truck.

Now if they were to make a Diesel electric hybred, with drive motors instead of a transmision, that might be something to really look at. Think of just applying a diesel locomotive on a much smaller scale. All that you would need is a small three cylinder diesel to turn a really big alt. To power batteries and the drive motors.

check out that winch bumper! im wondering about the low output engines, they look powerful enough for wheelin and such. since they are made for towing freight

these things look bigger than in the pics

should be an interesting truck for sure

I don't think I'll be trading the X for one anytime soon but with the full floating axles and diesel engine they my take off in the off road community like the samie. 63hp is kind of weak but hell its a diesel.

63hp doesnt matter when you add Diesel to it b/c torque is what moves you and diesels make good torque even with puny hp numbers Id like to see the Tq numbers on it. Its an odd lookin truck but it seems well enough and with a small diesel engine it will take off its just a matter of time and beauty is in the eye of the beholder Ive had several people make cracks over the way my X looks but thats the great part if we all liked the same stuff it would be boring as hell out there in the auto market.

"Mr. Perez estimates the U.S. version of the mHawk will have power ratings in the range of 145-horsepower to 150-horsepower and approximately 300 pound-feet of torque, though the numbers haven't been finalized. The mHawk was designed in cooperation with diesel engineering firms Bosch and AVL specifically with the American pickup market in mind."

Ok I read the artical and 150hp for the US bound truck aint bad at all compared to the X and 300lbft of torque I might consider one instead of other options b/c its bound to get descent mileage also with 6 speed auto and paddle shifter on the steerin wheel. Indeed this lil truck would be fun the down side would be ugly as dog squat and a $22,000 price tag.

$22K as an MSRP might not be bad if the actual price was $17K to $18K.

The Willy's Jeep only had about a 2.0L engine (164 cu in if I remember correctly) and it was probably a lot heavier than this thing. I certainly wouldn't make fun of someone offroad in a Willy's. With a diesel it would make fun, agreeably ugly, offroad truck. If you picked one up used in a few years for $5K you could chop on it all you want and not feel bad about it. Not to mention banging it up rock crawling or swamping. It might actually look better after a bit of rock crawling... maybe a face plant or a roll or two...

Its just the nose that bugs me a beefy winch bumper/stinger would fix most of that. for a horsepower consideration Suzuki Samurais maybe 50hp and you ever try to follow a MILD built one lol. In the age old sayin for us white guys lol "Its not the size that matters its how you use it" (drops mic and steps away) lol

I have one of their tractors. A 30hp 4x4 compact model. It has a Mitsubishi 3cyl diesel in it. Having owned/operated a host of tracts from JD and Kubota to Cat and IH, I can tell you with certainty that they build one helluva tractor. I hope they integrate that into these rigs....
