: Any Suggestions? Winch Mount Problem

Hey Everyone...I need some suggestions. On Friday, the Shrock front bumper came and we installed it this morning. Install was quite simple with help from a chain hoist in the shop. We also installed a MileMarker 9000lb winch in the bumper, and that is where I have problems. When the Solenoid is mounted on the winch, it contacts the tranny cooler and bends the hard line. Also, another major issue with this set-up is that there is no safe way to access the kill switch on the winch. If you take the solenoid off, where do you mount it so that it can be switched? Do I need longer cables? There is about 6-8" of slack between the solenoid and the winch. For now, the winch in inoperable. I appreciate any suggestions.

Is it an integrated solenoid? If so, you are probably stuck.

If it's a remote solenoid, the 05+ Shrock bumpers come with a mounting bracket for the noid that places externally on the top of the bumper in the center. If you do not have this bracket, let me know, I'll send you mine.

If you need to extend the wires, just get longer ones and repalce them. It should be two wires, most likely 6 gauge (should say on the existing wires...the parts list shows them as 10 gauge????).

I just looked and the only 9k electric winch that MM has is the E9000 which is a remote solenoid. Extend the wires fromt he noid to the winch and place it on top of the bumper and you'll be good to go.

Thanks Guys. I decided to move it below the winch in the space under where it was before. Shrock did send a bracket, but I just did not want it mounted on top of the bumper. They provide holes for the remote plug and I extended the wires and mounted the plug in the bumper instead of the solenoid. As for the solenoid, I covered the hole that the plug socket left, and the hung the solenoid unit underneath the internal mount for the bracket shrock provides. It allows acess to the on/off switch via the front opening. The solenoid-to-winch wires did not reach because they are only 12 inches. A trip to the parts store located universal starter wires which are 19 inches and less than $4. It works great and still remains semi-hidden. I also put rubber exhaust hangers on the D-rings to prevent rattles.

I am not certain how you mounted yours, the pic does not show. On my version (2003 model), the mounting arm bulkhead had some oval slots that were spaced apart for the solenoid to bolt to. I had to cut the solenoid cover box and beat some things out of the way, but got the solenoid mounted out of the way and hidden. You could reach through the hiflit jack port to attach the contol paddle. Maybe the 2nd gen has these slots as well?
