Hey guys, My first post here. Have had my 2002 Xterra for about 8 months so far. Its a 3.3 non-supercharged, 4x4, silver. Did some small stuff to it so far but what got me looking on the forums again is that it SOOOOOOOO SLOWWWWW. I dont even think its gonna make it up hills sometimes heh. I have the nismo cat back on it, which believe it or not helped a little. That and when I put anything in the back it sags and I gotta fix that. Other than that its a little beast.
I also have a 03 Altima SE w/ the 3.5VQ and 5 speed manual tranny. Have had it for about 1 + 1/2 years and I LOVE IT. Always used to own domestics before the altima, but that car made me a nissan fan.
Sooo, any ideas on how to make the xterra not hate hills or hauling with out spending like 3 grand? :)

welcome to the club... for the sagging of the rear when you have a load back there you need to upgrade your springs... you can either do a AAL or you can get new acks all together...
when you talk about slow going up hills is that loaded or no load???

Thanks for the welcome!
Cool I will look into seafoam, Ive used it before but never on the xterra.
Slow up the hills is unloaded, or loaded, it seems equally as slow :(

i know when i am going up lets say the ship channel bridge in houston mine gets pretty bogged down... LOL it is pretty steep... now if yours is really slow even on a slow upgrade then there is a problem, its just finding out what the problem is that will be a pain... LOL

yeah I was thinking about before...I probably shouldnt call these hills, they are more like mountians I guess. But it just seems strange that even at WOT, with overdrive off or on, I will still loose MPH on some inclines. Is that normal for the N/A 3.3? The engine temp will stay fine, the tranny seems fine, it just has crap power. Its only got about 54K miles too.
Other random thoughts: I think we need to band together and get someone to make a programmer for us 3.3 ppl. Is an intake worth it on the 3.3? I had a montero w/ a 3.5 a while ago and did an intake on it, swear to god it made it slower lol. Why do they make a truck that can tow 5K LBS with, but you cant put 200 lbs of stuff in the back w/o sagging???

well as to the power the X weighs around the same as a blazer with almost half the motor... the 1st gen X is underpowered and on these "hills" as you put it you will feel the power loss more... as to the intake you can do a search on the DIY mod and it will be the best bang for the buck cause it only costs a few dollars to do...
now as to the programmer i think super chips has one but they are expensive to obtain...

the blazer would be on the side of the hill with a blown fuel pump as the xterra slowy goes by at 20 MPH at wide open throttle for the past 2 minutes. lol, fail.

Howdy!
I don't think SuperChips has a programmer for the first gen yet...
