My mom has an '06 Malibu, I moved her car in the driveway. When I did, I noticed that when I turn the wheel I get a thump/knock in the steering. Any Ideas?

Is it the same kind of thump you get when you turn full lock in 4WD? Could be a shot CV. I'm not sure what kind of steering setup the Malibu's have so I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to diagnose it but I bet a few of our techies will be a lot more help.

No 4wd. Im gonna go through her service records. Same thing happened 2 years ago, whatever it was. Was still under warranty, and replaced.

I know it's not 4WD. What I meant was is the thump similar to that of the thump you get if you were in a 4WD vehicle and turned sharply where the CV binds.

Steering column. Buddy works for GM and said its a common problem. Its the U-joints that are bad.

I was gonna say it's either that or the CV joints.
