I am considering a new xterra but am VERY interested in the comfort. Although I am only 30 something I have a bda back and Hate my current cars seats. I am selling it after only a year of ownership, and do not want to make the same mistake twice.
I realize most of you love your xterras (I have enjoyed past Nissans)BUT please do not be partial or protective.
A test drive just doesnt give you the real world feel. (Thats what hapend last time & this day in age changing a seat is out of the question due to the airbags)
Please share your experience on this generation. Also any feedback on real mpg is helpful.
Thank You for taking the time to respond -
noob / possible new owner
Any Other vehicle suggestions welcome as well

I have an 04 and find it very comfortable for long trips. I previously had a subaru wrx, which was very comfortable, but gave me a sore back after a few hours behind the wheel.
The nice thing about the xterra is the adjustability of the seat. The new xterras have even nicer, more supportive seats than the 1st Gen xterras. Ask the dealer for a 24hr test drive, and explain why. You may find they are willing to let you spend more time with the truck.

i've had my xterra for 7 months now...i bought a new 05 leftover and absolutely love it. i have no back problems, but am an active duty airforce c130 pilot and spend lots of my time sitting in an airplane seat. when i get done flying for the day, the seats of the x are a welcome sight for my drive home. i recently drove 2600 miles across the country in the x, driving about 8 hours a day for more than a week straight. not once on the drive did my back begin to hurt or get tired. as for mpg, well, its decent. on the highway i get between 20-25 mpg...i do have a 6spd so that saves me a little. for part of my drive i was hauling my 6x10 trailer with my motorcycle, and when towing, the mgp sucks. i got around 10-11 mpg with the trailer on. however, the power the x has more than makes up for it. i was able to do highway speeds, pass cars, and haul through the mountains with ease. hope this helps, and i'm sure some of the other guys here will chime in with their opinions...thanks for checking us out, and happy purchasing....let us all know what you decide.

I have a bad lower back, and I have taken many long trips in my Xterra.I average about 500 miles or so a week. The seats are very comfortable, I have never really had my back act up while driving. I hope this helps.

I have an 06' X that i have had since Feb 6th. I am in central FL and drove to Winston Salem, NC on a little less then 2 tanks of gas which I felt was pretty good. The driver seat lumbar adjusted great for me and had no problems with my back hurting. I drive to the beach almost every weekend which is about a 45-50 min drive one way. The only problem I had really had was my service engine soon light came on and it was just an air sensor thing which was on warranty and they fixed that with no probs. I love my 06' X and wouldnt trade it for anything. I just wish I could find someone and place closer to me that I could use it off road a little more, so I could use my 4wd other then just one the beach. I think you would really enjoy an X .. even my GF loves my truck. Wooo hooo
I love my '06 X - traded in a '99 Jeep Wrangler for it. I have to say the Jeep bucket seats were more comfortable in the way they wrap you - keeping you centred in the seat when you're on uneven surfaces. Overall though the X seats are fine - I drive 200 miles straight every couple of weeks - no problem - get about 21mpg.
