I have a 2005 Xterra and I just bought the yakima load warrior cargo basket and now i want to install 4 hella 500 lights to the rack. I have the yakima brackets for the lights. whats the best way to run the wires and where do I run the wires? Is my battery going to be able to support the lights? What switches will i need for the lights? I am going to have a buddy of mine that is good with vehicles help, does anyone have any pointers? I will take pictures when I do it so I can help out others. Thanks

Your battery will hold them just fine.

No idea how to do wires for 2nd gens.

i have installed lights on the roof of my 2 gen X. Its not to bad. Basically take off your dome lights, you will see two holes. A big one up front and small one in the back.

Like so

i drilled a hole at an angle pointing towards the back of the truck so that way the wires come out under the air dam.

than run your wires through the headliner to the driver side pillar.

pop off your pillar (it just pops off) and run the wires down that. There is a small slit in the dash where you can run wires. (right behind the air vent)

I wired my switch into the blank panel next to my securtiy light.

then find the seal where your main wiring harness runs through the fire wall. Run your power wire through there and spice it into your high beam power wire. (should be green)

Find a grounding point. Plug in the switch. mount it, and you have light!

Hope this helps.

P.S. PLEASE SEAL THE HOLE!! i know someone who didnt do that and water came pouring in when it rained.

Alternately you can run the wires up the outside along the A-pillar, at least on the first gens. But I would imagine you could do the same on yours.
I'm using a 4 wire trailer plug (makes the lights easy to remove, and includes all the wire).
And USE A RELAY!! Don’t skip out on that little detail.
If you are going for four lights rig them in banks of two, switching on all four at once will not be good for you electrical. You can run them all at once, just don’t turn on all that load at once.
