: new to the club, hi
mtbjunkie 05-08-2009, 09:00 AM Hi all, I just stumbled upon your club pages while i was looking for after market performance Xterra parts for my ride. I have a 2003 that I bought with 7 miles and we have been together ever since. I just turned over 100,000 and I am getting ready to change out the clutch for a triple plated and I want to install some lift too. So I am hoping to search around and see what other club members are doing and get some ideas.
thanks, MTBJunkie

tameroflions 05-08-2009, 09:03 AM welcome!
have you replaced timing belt yet? if not...DO IT!!!!!!!
what kinda performance parts are you lookin at?
the main question for the kinda lift you want is what are your goals for the x? are you wanting to have more ground clearance, stuff bigger tires, or just for looks?
if you want bigger tires and just a meaner stance, you can do a Body Lift (BL) for about 80 bucks. search for DIY BL, you should find the directions for it.
you can also do a simple PML (Poor Mans Lift) for about 60(i think) both are very simple. the BL will get you 2"'s hiher and will let you run up to 33" tires, and the PML will give you an additional 1.5 inchs.
welcome!
mtbjunkie 05-08-2009, 09:33 AM alright, when i get home I will go dig up some. its not as impressive as some of the terras I have seen on this site today. Im very impressed by some of the member rides.
Logan01X 05-08-2009, 09:37 AM it's an Xterra , of course it's impressive!
mtbjunkie 05-08-2009, 09:45 AM Oh really, so you don't think I should wait for 120,000 for the timing service, and do it now? I figured it would be better to do the clutch and timing all at once. But i was going to read some of these member forums and see what others have done. I want my next performance add-on to be headers, but I am not having luck finding any so again maybe these fourms will turn up some good ideas for me.
My desire for the lift is mostly looks, I have seen a few xterra's lifted and it just looks right to me. I don't really care about bigger tires so much and my offroad driving has been mostly fire roads and trails that are maybe moderate technical at best. My biggest complaint right now is how the rear end sits down when taking off from a stop, and how it rocks upward when braking. I am hoping that a lift would include a stiffer/stronger/more solid rear suspension. the rear leafs seem a little weak to me. Again I am going to comb through the forums to see what other people have done. Thanks for the tips on the body and poor mans lifts, which i could definitely use, and will seriously consider. like i said the xterra looks better a little higher up. I would also like to loose the stock side step rails for some that are a little less flashy and allot more durable.
thanks for the quick responses, it is great connect with others that are as enthusiastic about their Xs as I am(I see x is used to replace xterra so I will use that from now on, still getting my noobish ways out of my system).

uncletwodogs 05-09-2009, 09:29 PM WELCOME BRO! NORCAL, HUH! Primo single track I bet, I lived in San Diego for a few years, but never made it up north. I live for the MTB myself! What rig do you ride? I'm still stuck in the 20th century with an old hard-tail/ titanium Habanero, but she still rolls forward, up, over and down. LOL!
mtbjunkie 05-10-2009, 01:16 PM Welcome to cx! lets see some pics.
Here are some pics attached
mtbjunkie 05-10-2009, 01:20 PM The mountain biking is really good up here, lots of places to go. I ride a Marin, Attack Trail full suspension mostly. But I still have my old steal (Marin), Pine Mountain hard tail for cruising rides. I dont think I have a picture of it yet, but I have a inside storage compartment bike rack for my X.
mtbjunkie 05-10-2009, 01:23 PM So I checked out the BL threads, that looks like something i can do over a weekend with a few friends. I might take it on this summer. I going to see if I cant answer some of my own questions through the threads about the maintenance for timing service and clutches so no worries if you dont respond to my noob post from earlier.
Thanks everyone for welcoming me.
