whats the deal with those Pulse Spark plugs? do they really make that much of a diff. and do they really do what they say?? are they work it??

My off hand guess is no.

I have not used them, but, logically, the MOST they can PHYSICALLY save you, is what ever the regular spark plugs are not burning when they spark.

The amount of unburned hydrocarbons resulting from the spark plug's inability to ignite the fuel is so small, that even if the new plug got ALL of it, I doubt you'd be able to measure the difference.

So, it might burn some more of the gas...but, the amount of extra gas to burn is probably too small to make much of a difference.

Example of Concept:

Some products claims are based upon a sound principle, such as lowering wind resistance, and lowering your weight, will let you run faster...which is 100% true.

But the mod itself is the moral equivalent of cutting off your left ear...

...It WILL cut your wind resistance, and it WILL make you lighter....but its not really worth it.

And so forth.

if you ask the kid at autozone who's trying to make a sale, then yeah they definetly work

My buddy who works at Checker said that 3 people have bought them and 3 people have brought them back.

On the other hand, the famous 22RE loves them apparently according to one source.

Save your money.....these things have been a disaster over on the mazda6 forums. Lots of the plugs were crapping out soon after install, others were having the porcelain breaking, etc. Then AF bought one of the forums and allowed pulsestar to become a vendor. Pulsestar started a thread and apologized, admitting the early plugs were faulty and their new plugs would last....of course that's not what's been happening as many who gave them a second go had many of the same problems.

i just cant see them being worth the $

they are hella expensive arent they?

i saw an ad for some directional plugs, cant remember where or by whom, but i thought it wasnt an interesting concept

instead of a tab between the spark location and the chamber it was a ring type if thing, that directed the initial ignition straight at the piston, in theory it sounds like it would work well, but in reality im still wondering if the difference would be noticeable, anyone else hear of or see these? my runner needs new plugs, was gonna go with iridium as usual, but if they arent too much $ id try them, its not my dd so itd be a great test rig

The bottom line for spark plug improvements is as follows:

EVERYONE SHOULD get a boost in power and so forth if they replace OLD WORN OUT PLUGS with new ones.

The plugs from the factory burn pretty much all the gas, or your HC emissions would not pass.

The difference between "pretty much" and 100.00 % is the MOST you can save, assuming that the wonder plug du jour burns 100.00% itself.

That means you should not expect one type of plug to be much better than another as far as efficiency.

Some engines "prefer" one brand or another though, typically, because that brand tends to be similar enough in flame propagation to what the engine was DESIGNED with.

Nissans for example tend to like NGK's....not because they burn "better", but because the way the engine's electrical system ignites it, and shape and characteristics of the spark follow what the engine was designed around...it does NOT mean they are better plugs (Or are not), just better in a particular application.

Now, if you also change the ignition system, and the fuel injection system, and programming, etc...you can also change that preference/what works best, etc.

And - those 100k mile platinum plugs it came with, well, it looks like they are going south around 60K most of the time.

i've heard they're good. they did a dyno test on some civic i think it was in some import mag and supposedly it gained like almost 3hp. idk but to me the extra 3hp isn't worth the extra money.

Well, to start with, they don't make a pulstar plug to fit the xterra engines, at least not the second gen VQ's. I honestly don't know about the VG33's or KA24's. But, the price difference is ridiculous. I think the most expensive NGK's are around ten bucks a pop; the pulstars are minimum $25 each. As previously mentioned, the Mazda guys are having a lot of problems with them, especially on the direct injection engines (Mazdaspeed 3 and 6). If you wanna know more about whether it would be worth it, browse some 240SX or 300ZX forums. If there's a pulstar for VG or KA engines, someone on there will have tried them.
