: Hello from BRAZIL!!!
Dudarj 05-02-2009, 07:01 PM Hi all! I've been here for a while but never introduced myself. I own a 2004 Yellow Xterra. This is my second X.
I sold my Black xterra for a good $ and bought the yellow for an even better $$!. It is a SE model with a 2.8 turbo diesel engine and manual transmission. Stock it comes with 132hp, but I tweaked it a bit and now have 170hp dino tested.
It is my daily drive but I did some mod's to it. 2" bodylift, 1,5 PML, 33"x12",5 Maxxis Bighorn Mud tires, Smittybuilt 8k lbs winch, Pioneer 2 Din DVD.
Just put a couple Hella 500 on the front grill today.
I bought it a couple of weeks ago and transfered everything I had on the last X.
Here's a pic: (I didn't take it to the trails yet)

tameroflions 05-02-2009, 07:11 PM that thing is a beast! i love that hood scoop!.
is it functional?
Dudarj 05-02-2009, 07:11 PM And this was my last X.

On the yellow one is. I bought it tinted. I think is 35%
The rest of the windows are 5% (limo).
TN4x4Xterra 05-02-2009, 07:17 PM Dude....you have a winch? Where is it mounted to? Since you don't have an aftermarket bumper on it....i'm interested in seeing how its mounted?
Your windows are DARK! lol but I'm assuming the heat is unbearable down there also too.
Dudarj 05-02-2009, 07:20 PM that thing is a beast! i love that hood scoop!.
is it functional?
YES!!! It's for the Intercooler. My X is Turbo Diesel (stock). All Xterras and Frontiers here in Brazil are Diesel's. We don't have gas ones.
The first gen of X began it's production in 2003 w/ a 2004 model and ended in 2007, as well as the previous Frontiers.
Nissan didn't continue w/ the 2nd gen X's here. Only Pathfinders...

The problem here is not the temperature, but the humidity (sp?). But It sure helps w/ the sun!
Yes, I do have a winch! Is a support made here in Brazil by Todo Terreno.
It's mounted on top of the frame rails. The OEM bumper mounts on it.

Well, I'll be darned! If I had known about that mod....I would've just opted for that instead of getting Shrock...lol....I needed something with winch mounting capabilities for the farm that I frequently help out with....but can't complain about the Shrock bumper since it'll help push down things....
But I wonder if that would work for gas powered Xterras or not since your diesels have intercoolers on top and we have radiators.....
How much do the mounts cost? I don't see any prices but again, I can't read spanish lol.
Dudarj 05-02-2009, 07:48 PM I sure does fit!!!
The difference from the diesel ones are the IC on top of the engine, the engine itself, the transmission, axle (dana).
The rest is the same. All have radiators, a/c condenser, etc on the front. It's the same frame, suspension, brakes, interior.(not gauges)
I paid arround 270.00 US Dol. for the winch support.
The site is in portuguese! :)
TN4x4Xterra 05-02-2009, 07:51 PM 270 bucks for the winch support....that's a good deal!
Never really seen an diesel Xterra so kinda new to me and I'm sure for others too, lol.
Of course, I meant to say, I can't read portuguese....instead of spanish! :mocking: lol
Thanks for the info!
Dudarj 05-02-2009, 08:02 PM There is a better pic of the support (I asked for a install set up and they sent me this). It's seems to be a Frontier because the bumper on the floor.

The black studs on the frame are replaced with longer ones that pass thru the frame for a better support. (the pic shows the black stock ones)
Also there are 2 more studs on each side, next to the silver ones on the pic.
chuckamazuk 05-02-2009, 08:09 PM That is sweet. Wonder if us U.S. X'ers could find one of those? Nice ride man.

Alpha 05-02-2009, 10:37 PM Youre truck looks awesome!
The 12.5s look amazing on it, and i bet the diesel engine makes it a beast!
Do the tires have any clearance issues?
Also, that winch plate is really cool.
This really motivates me to get some 33x12.5s... :)
I gotta ask, more pics?
Cheers :)
uncletwodogs 05-02-2009, 10:48 PM SWEET X! Man, that hood scoop looks fat, bet the torque on that diesel is just right. Welcome!

I had to trim the front a little bit. No issues on the rear. I'm going to take some pictures today, w/ the Hella's 500 installed and post it.

I think they are a bit $$. Here in Brazil, the price of a new 2.8 is about 6-7k. A used one goes for about 4k. If you want I can put you in touch with MWM International dealers. My engine is a MWM International 2.8TD Sprint.

j-DuBb 05-03-2009, 10:17 AM Welcome to CX ... diggin the ride and especially since its diesel, if we had that option out here for a turbo diesel i might have bought one. Nice ride bro.
Peace,

Alpha 05-03-2009, 09:43 PM Just to know... how does the 8k winch hold up on its recovery duties?
I know that even an 8k winch is more than 1.5 times the running weight of the truck, but 8k just seems too flimsy to pull the xterra out of a good stuck.
What is your input? since youve got one.
Cheers :)
Dudarj 05-05-2009, 06:47 PM This winch was on my Wrangler, and I didn't want to spend $$ on a new one.
I never had a problem with it, even with the reel almost at the end I still have juice to take the X out of the mud.
I don't have, but you can always carry a pulley to increase the pulling power. I winched a lot with it and for the price I paid I can't complaint. 269 at 4wheelparts.com
williambelk587 05-05-2009, 07:20 PM Man I am jealous of the diesel. I have a 2.8L turbo Jeep(mall crawler) and the power is incredible.
Joao Baeta 05-05-2009, 07:31 PM People, I'm from Rio de Janeiro and I want to get a 04 XT with 22k original miles! One owner and it is my neighbor!
Dudarj 05-05-2009, 08:10 PM People, I'm from Rio de Janeiro and I want to get a 04 XT with 22k original miles! One owner and it is my neighbor!
Hello President!!
*Joao is the president of BAETA's OFFROAD team here in Rio and a good friend of mine. He have a Samurai (crawler) and a Diesel Grand Vitara and I'm helping him find a good X.
cajun x 05-05-2009, 08:12 PM People, I'm from Rio de Janeiro and I want to get a 04 XT with 22k original miles! One owner and it is my neighbor!
so you want an X with 22Kish and only 1 owner in your area?
:zigarre-big:
TBass 05-05-2009, 08:29 PM I love that winch! And the diesel! Very nice X!
I've been trying to piece together aftermarket parts to add a winch without replacing the front bumper. Do you have any part numbers for that winch?
Dudarj 05-05-2009, 08:48 PM so you want an X with 22Kish and only 1 owner in your area?
:zigarre-big:
He means that his neighbor have one w/ 22k and he is negotiating.
Some facts:
-In Brazil a 2004 X goes for around 20-25k US dollars. (almost 60k when new!) - We can't import used cars (only over 30yrs) and the Import taxes on a new one elevates the price tag over 120%
-In 2006 X's started to come with electronic diesel engines. Prior, the pump and injectors were mecanical.
-We had a limited version:
ECOTRIP -with BF AT 31"x10.5" tires, Neoprene seat covers, Rack, custom decals, mud flaps and painted rims.
http://www.noticiasautomotivas.com.br/imge/nissan-xterra-ecotrip.jpg
Alpha 05-05-2009, 08:58 PM Yeah, car prices in south america are ridiculous.
When I go visit my father in venezuela we laugh at the people who pay the equivalent of $80,000 USD in cash for an fj cruiser, without a locker.
Its crazy, but there is no way around it.
Also, thanks for the winch input! I might consider an 8k winch if I can get one for less than $300.
Cheers :)

chuckamazuk 05-05-2009, 10:20 PM So what do we need to get to mount a winch like Dudarj? I would be happier than a puppy with two peters if I could get a winch without having to buy a Shrock or ARB front bumper.
Based on the room under there...and assuming the mount is rated high enough...you can probably mount a 9,500 lb winch instead of the 8k lb winch.
It sounds like the 8k winch was used because it was already owned, vs having to buy a new one, etc....rather than because a larger one would not fit.
From my very (VERY) limited translation skills, it looks like some 9.5K winches are listed as compatible.
So, some might not fit (The Warn Dual Force, etc...), or ones with bulky integrated solenoids, etc.....but the Warn XP, etc...is listed.

Looked up and found out they make the Xterra in Brazil, China & the USA. Are they still making the Generation 1 truck like yours or did they move to the bigger Generation 2 version? Like Ford parts from Australia and VW parts from Mexico it would be great to be able to still get new replacement parts from Brazil when they get hard to find here. Here's my Generation 2 truck for a comparison.

Dudarj 05-09-2009, 12:30 PM We know some of the people who did tha expedition. But they didn't get rain, so the journey was a bit softer....
Regarding your previous post, Nissan ended the production of the Xterra in Brazil in 2007 and did not moved to the 2nd gen. It produces only Frontiers (current gen), Tiida (Versa) and Livina.
And imports the Sentra and Pathfinder
Since it wasn't a big production like Ford and Vw, I don't think you can get better prices in parts here in Brazil.
For an example, I had to buy those plastic caps from the steering stop and it cost 7 dol each! (needed 4 of them).
J Everett 05-09-2009, 02:22 PM Dudarj, welcome to the club. That is an outstanding Xterra. I'm a little jealous because Nissan never offered the diesel engine here. And I love your winch mount. Thanks for posting the close up pictures and the contact info; hopefully someone here can put that to good use for the first gen Xterras here in the States.
Again, welcome! It's nice to have club members from all over the world.
Xterra Mike 05-09-2009, 02:23 PM Welcome. My Father is portuguese but unfortunately didn't teach me any portuguese. Damn him. I'll have to get him over here so that he can go over that site with me.

Alpha 05-10-2009, 06:55 PM By the way... I forgot to ask earlier.
How do you like the bighorns in the mud? do they clean out well?
I am interested in them :)
Cheers
Dudarj 05-13-2009, 07:12 AM The only comparison I have is with a previous set of BFG Mud's. I think the Bighorn is better on mud. I'd definately buy it again, pretty happy w/ it.
Bluegrassen 05-13-2009, 11:45 AM Nice Diesel X. Welcome to the club.
I'm digging that web site you posted earlier dealextreme.com they have just about anything you can imagine and cheap.
Dudarj 05-13-2009, 01:02 PM Some friends told me about dealextreme.com but I was misgiving it. I bought a cheap thing to see if it was going to arrive. For my surprise, it did! After that I'm always buying stuff from them. My last one was a pocket knife. I'm waiting to get here.
vandebogart 05-13-2009, 01:28 PM Well i just ordered a knife from there.. hopefully it'll come! lol
hodge-x 05-13-2009, 02:18 PM i wonder what it would take to put one of these motors in our truck......or what it would cost to have one of these sent to the us lol
Dudarj 05-13-2009, 05:06 PM A new one here in Brazil goes for 6-7k add the shipping, taxes, install....
Do you guys now what transfer case (anufacture/model) are in you X's?
I think they could be different from mine. For an example, my rear differential is Dana!! But don't know the model. It's seems bigger than a 44...
ddavis 05-22-2009, 11:27 AM to the xterra junky from Brazil...........i need some help here in Costa Rica..........my terra is from Brazil.........diesel...........etc............i can't find parts for the x here except from a dealer..............all you folks wanting a diesel............the air cleaner is 40 dollars US.............and you change it every 5000 k................a must .............the oil filter gets delivered by and armored car (just kidding)...........anyway my question...........first........do you know of repair manuals that are on line that are for the Brazilian xterra?
there are some very big differences if you need a manual to work on your x...............do you know of a place in brazil where i can get a trailer towing kit to wire the xterra to tow a trailer.............the plugs in the x are very different for the tail lights than the 2007 american..............or at least the light harness i got from etrailer was very different............i would like to be able to get a repair manual and parts without fear of a shipment arriving for another type of xterra..............any help out there would be so much appreciated
