2000- 2004 Models are 1st gen

The 05 to current modesl are second gen.

yup, Ian is right.

2000-2004 is 1st gens.

There is no such thing as 1.5 gens since 2002-2004 are different than 2000-2001s...lol they are still considered 1st gens with minor faceplate changes but drivetrain remains the same.

Yep. Cosmetic changes typically do not constitue a new generation.

You can say the same thing about the '08 and '09's

LOL

Its like World War One, and TWO...

When the 00's - 01's came out, they had rectangular head lights.

When the round head lighted '02 - 04's came out, they were called second gen X's then....even though they were mechanically very similar.

When the 05's came out, and they were completely different, THEY became the Second Gen X's....and the 00-04's were the First Gen X's.

So, until they come out with a new chassis, etc...that's what's used now a days to ID the X's.

:D

I basically just go by the grill as the quick way to distinguish one gen from the other.
There's other subtle differences like the seams around the pop up top, which way the rear wiper flaps, headlights, rims, colors, etc.
I'm just happy whenever I can find someone in an X that acknowledges we're in the same rig!

From the rear, those side steps in the rear fenders are a 2nd Gen ID

and from the front, the "V" in the grill.

Funny you mention that.....blown diffs while ours are bombproof? :D

bah.....who needs a supercharger.

I believe it was mr. kevin copeland that said "it's the driver- not the rig"

he's got 2 first gens. no sc'd. put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Hmmm....so, you're waiting for the warranty to run out?

That's a bit retarded you know.

:D

Think about it.

You can wheel it now, and, if something breaks...the dealer might fix it under warranty...and they DO fix a lot of the things that break, if they shouldn't have broken/they ever want to sell you or your friends another rig, etc...

...or, you can wheel it later with a GUARANTEE that they WILL NOT fix it under warranty.

So - wheel a more reliable, newer rig, that might be fixed under warranty...

...or wheel an older, less reliable rig that will NOT be under warranty...

What's the wait for?

:D

I guess in my case it's not so much waiting for the warranty to run out but for the newness to wear off. I've had fixer uppers my entire life simply because I'm pretty good with mechanical stuff and didn't want car payments. Finally had enough of wrenching (as a hobby) and am enjoying the hell out of living under the principle of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

Which is why I'm glad for this website where I can watch you all goin' mod crazy!

So, you want the newness to wear out before enjoying the truck the way it could be?

Why not wheel it while enjoying the newness?

:D

(PS - I don't think mods for the sake of mods are worth it...if the truck does what you want it to be able to, you're done. :) )

Great way to put that out there. As of right now the stock capabilities of the rig are greater than my needs but as I get used to going to rougher & rougher places eventually I may outgrow it and then you can rest assured I'll be re-reading all the mod threads!
