: Stained my front bumper.

Ok, I know I did something stupid but hopefully I can fix it/cover it up.

I was fixing my fog light with some crazy glue and I managed to spill a drop on my fron bumper (the plastic part). I used a small amount of nail polish remover (it was all I had at the time) hoping it would remove the glue, but instead it smeared the small dot of glue into a large black dot (about a 1 inch circle). The dot is perfectly smooth and I tried scrubbing it afterwards but I didn't make any progress. Is there anything I can do? to get it back to normal? Is there another solvent I can use? Is there bumper paint or something to cover it up?

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like there is any way to reverse that process at this point...

Mr. Scientist TJ, any suggestions?

Welcome A Board!

:wink-big:

Unfortunetely, you have dissolved the plastic part of the bumper...so there's not a huge amount of solutions left for you to use.

They do make plastic bumper paints (More elastomeric than traditional paints...to flex with the plastic...), and you might be able to get a decent match.

Your dealer may even have some on hand in their body shop if you are lucky.

:D

If the dissolved part is very shallow, you MAY also be able to use emory cloth to buff out the bad part and match the remaining plastic texture...but that is labor intensive, as rubbing too hard makes the area stand out way more than it probably does now.

Plan C is what I did...get a new front bumper here:

Worked great!

Do you know any product names or places that sell these items? I really just want to cover the stain up. It is not significant enough to warrant getting a new bumper. I called the dealer and they said get a new bumber.

Steel wool may be able to sufficiently scuff the stain to help it blend in with the surrounding plastic.

You can get touch up paint from your dealership. Then use some clearcoat over it.

Hmmm- plastic is always really tough to match on surrounding texture.

Especially as its not exactly dull, or shiny...sort of in between.

Clear coat would be too shiny I think.

Might have to experiment on a part that doesn't show first, and then apply what ever looked like a match to the part in question.

Anjin - On a side note, do you want to go off roading?

:D

Unfortunately I live in cali so that would be kind of a long drive to off road..

I just looked at my xterra again and the damage is on the plastic part above the bumper that covers the mesh grill which is a much smaller piece. When I search for "xterra front grill" I only get results for the aluminum mesh covers and not the plastic grill piece. Any sugestions?

Post a digital pic of the damage. Maybe if we saw it we could give you better advice.

Thats a good idea!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure you don't want to do this but you could linx, hurculiner, rinoliner or other products it........But then you'd probably want to do the side molding and the rear bumper too.........
