: Finally Got My Project Vehicle
Jdubbau02 04-19-2009, 12:24 AM I recently found a 1978 IH Scout II that runs with 23xxx on the clock. The lady wanted $500 for it. I worked out a deal basically trading work she needed done around her house for it and she accepted! I just got it home today and am super excited!!!! Tomorrow im going to start gutting it and get the top off.
here is some pics. Its rough but just needs some good ole tlchttp://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k114/elko1743/Danielle/IMG_0016.jpghttp://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k114/elko1743/Danielle/IMG_0017.jpghttp://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k114/elko1743/Danielle/IMG_0011-1.jpghttp://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k114/elko1743/Danielle/IMG_0012-1.jpghttp://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k114/elko1743/Danielle/IMG_0010-1.jpg

json3904 04-19-2009, 01:34 AM sorry to hear about your friend todd, and justin that is a sweet deal.. LOL i have always wanted a scout but around here they want alot of coin even if it isnt running... LOL
Steeze 04-19-2009, 01:39 AM Nice truck!
That's going to be a sweet project, I would love to do the same to a patrol one day...
Xterra Mike 04-19-2009, 05:44 AM wow nice. i saw a show on the scout. I think it was Trucks on Speed or something. they of course lifted it and put some huge tires on it. It looked nice. What are your plans?
cajun x 04-19-2009, 10:03 AM xtreme 4x4 has 1 there fixing up, wow great find and the v8 .
SOA and 35"s then take top off and herc it and that will be bad azz
nice...what are your plans for it?
Jdubbau02 04-19-2009, 11:24 AM I really don't have to many plans for it yet. I want to rebuild the engine and basically get it in good condition. It has some cancer on it as you can see so I want to take are of that soon too. It's not going to be a trail rig I just want to restore it and it just be a mall cruiser. I'm definatly going to lift it though. But if you look the guy that originally had it fiberglassed the top to the body because it was rusting so it's going to be a real pain in the ass and ideas on the beat way to remove it would be greatly appreciated. I'm already tossing the idea of herc'n the inside but I kinda want to replace the carpet. Any ideas that you guys think would look cool throw them out cause I'm definatly open to suggestions on this project
Creepy Cruiser 04-19-2009, 11:54 AM LOL, I didn't even notice that he had molded the top and cab together. To get it apart, I'd pull a piece of tape from one end to the other to use as a guide and then use a cut off wheel or die grinder to carefully cut through the non oem glass. The when you can get the top off, sand the rest away.
aznboihoy03 04-19-2009, 11:57 AM nice! good luck on fixin her up!:D
vandebogart 04-19-2009, 01:38 PM Sweet find justin!

Sportsman22 04-19-2009, 03:02 PM traded ur xterra for the scout? or is that a 2nd car?
Jdubbau02 04-19-2009, 06:34 PM Well i got the top off today and took it for a spin :-)! I stopped at the gas station and in the 5 mins i was the 4 people asked if i would sell it. But sportsman no its a second car i still have the x. ANd creepy the fiber glass was so poorly done and old that most of it just pealed off. Ill post some pics tonight
TN4x4Xterra 04-19-2009, 06:35 PM Nice find man!

Jdubbau02 04-19-2009, 10:13 PM Heres some progress pics from today got some gutting done got it running and got the top off. Found some pretty nasty cancer but nothing thats fatal. Also theres a pic of my son sitting in it he loves the scout! oh and i named her Danielle.

Drake 04-20-2009, 07:16 AM Nice project bro! My best friend restored a '69 Scout which had the Fred Flintstone floorboards and more rust than body panels. It turned out awesome. I really dig the scouts.
Are you going strictly trailer queen or street legal cruiser/weekend warrior?
Jdubbau02 04-20-2009, 08:56 AM Drake it is going to be just a mall cruiser basically this is the one vehicle that I always wanted to just have to restore and drive around town. It is definatly a beast though it hadn't run in probably 4-5 months and when I finally got it fired my entire garage was filled with black smoke LOL the smoke alarm went off and me and my grandpa had to run out of the garage. The neighbor was across the street doing yard work said is your garage on fire? Should I call the fire department? Hahaha
Ricer-X 04-20-2009, 09:05 AM thats rockin dude
so, what color are ya gonna paint it?
Bluegrassen 04-20-2009, 10:02 AM Nice find, I love Scouts. You've def got your work cut out for ya. Should be bad ass when your finished.
Jdubbau02 04-20-2009, 10:02 AM I haven't really decided but I'm thinking a dark red color. I'm going to put the original rallye decals back on it just like it is now. I'm going to out a 3 inch body lift and 4 inch suspension lift on it plus the lift shackles I know that but other then the lift and a good stereo system and a soft top I'm going to leave everything else the way it was made. There is beauty in it's simplisity. I'm definatly going to order a carpet kit instead of herc'n it. The interior I'd going to be all black. I know a guy that does upholstery and the seats aren't too bad so I'm going to have them redone. I'm going to see if my buddy can do anything with the original hard top but I think it's about gone with cancer. If not the Inside panels are in excellent shape so I'll end up selling those. That's about all that I can think of right now LOL but I'll keep updating it as I go

Now thats the kind of IH's I'm used to starting with, lol. Those first pics didn't look too bad, but now it's starting to show its true colors.
That first scout in my pics, we completely sound deadned, all leather interior, nice stereo system (including a 12" sub flushed in the pass quarter panel), power windows and locks, it's got it all, lol. It started out worse than yours, but with a bunch of time, (and a complete frame off restore), it came out killer.
TN4x4Xterra 04-20-2009, 12:27 PM Looks good man.
You'll have to let me know when's a good time to come over an check it out cuz I'd like to see one up close!
